A good preventative maintenance program will assure well-maintained equipment, preventing downtime when possible, and faster recovery when there is issues to be resolved. Once again, preventative maintenance is the key.

Ensuring your machine health is very critical for meeting your production targets. Preventive maintenance activities helps us to ensure that our machinery is always valid and ready for production. I would plan my production activities including preventive maintenance activities also in the schedule. I will plan the resources to meet the production targets by calculating the machine availability excluding the maintenance schedules. This way I am ensuring availability of machinery for preventive maintenance activities and by this I am also ensuring my machine breakdown times would reduce and over all OEE(Overall Equipment Effectiveness) is maintained.

This has been my favourite topic over the years. Having practiced and demonstrated the TPM concepts the uptime of the equipment had improved drastically. Few approaches based on the learnings 1. Jishu Hozen ( Autonomous Maintenance) culture will drastically reduce the minor stoppages. My machine I maintain, culture can eliminate the dependence on the skilled maintenance personnel for minor stoppages. 2. Standardisation and Localisation of machinery spares can reduce the downtime. 3. Predictive Maintenance can help to reduce the Preventive Maintenance times. 4. Finally it boils down to the efforts improving MTBF and reducing MTTR. 5. Multiskilling of maintenance personnel is very much essential to eliminate waiting time.

Plan and Schedule 1. Create maintenance schedules 2. Prioritize critical tasks Communicate and Collaborate 1. Inform production teams of maintenance plans 2. Work together to minimize downtime Monitor and Adjust 1. Track maintenance and production progress 2. Make adjustments as needed Optimize Resources 1. Allocate resources efficiently 2. Minimize waste and downtime Analyze and Improve 1. Review performance data 2. Implement changes for better balance

1. Develop preventive maintenance plan 2. Prioritise maintanence task 3. Integrate maintenance into production planning 4. Establishment KPI for both teams interlinked
-
First, Production plan needs to be in sync with the preventive maintenance requirement. Second, Preventive Maintenance needs to be planned on weekends and Maintenance team can have their weekly off during weekdays in a segregated manner. Third, Need to continue Predictive Maintenance so that major line stoppages can be avoided.

This question assumes there must be a balance, just enough maintenance to meet production targets. The purpose of a process is to deliver materials or services when needed, with zero defects and no waste. The strategy is therefore to keep the process performing at peak. The balance is there must be a commitment by all stakeholders to preserve the process. The first deviation leads to a deterioration.

*Balancing Maintenance & Production:* *Maintenance Strategy:* 1. Predictive Maintenance 2. Preventive Maintenance 3. Reliability-Centered Maintenance *Production Planning:* 1. Production Scheduling 2. Capacity Planning 3. Inventory Management *Integration & Tools:* 1. CMMS Software 2. IoT Sensors 3. Data Analytics 4. Regular Meetings & Training *Metrics & Improvement:* 1. OEE, MTBF, MTTR 2. Root Cause Analysis 3. Continuous Improvement Teams *Leadership & Culture:* 1. Maintenance-Focused Culture 2. Clear Expectations 3. Empower Maintenance Teams

Better planned than facing a crisis. A goog maintenance is not always stop machine and exam. Daily observations on performance loss/ oil consuming can be a good indice. A good ratio of maintenance/prod should be planned and budgeted.
