You're working on a team project and it's not going well. What can you do to turn things around?

First things first - is something REALLY not going well or you FEELING it is not going as planned? This is 2 completely different things - reality and the feelings. You need to understand that sometimes you are not well, depressed or sad - it is totally okay to feel like that. However it does not change anything on your project. There is no problem to worry about. My advice - if things are not going well - give it a day or two.

Acredito na eficácia de se realizar uma discussão em grupo, deixando clara a importância do projeto, quais valores iremos entregar para a empresa e qual é o papel esperado de cada um. Brainstorming is a great tool. It helps if you're all in one room. If some are remote, then make it a Teams or Zoom meeting. I recommend using a large empty wall or whiteboard and some sticky notes. I like using sticky notes because you can take them off later and put them in different groups. Write down every idea on a sticky note and put it on the wall. No idea is turned down, and there are no comments offered, good or bad. With the threat of embarrassment removed, ideas flow a lot smoother. Then you can discuss how to proceed next, such as group similar notes together or determine if any ideas are impossible.

Idea Generation (6-3-5): - 6 minutes: Each person writes three ideas. - 3 minutes: Papers are passed, and individuals build on existing ideas. - Repeat for five rounds. 3. Result: Each person ends with 18 unique ideas. 4. Discussion: Group shares, evaluates, and expands upon the generated ideas.

A really good way of generating solutions is just by listening to the team, they know what works for them and the best ways that will work, so why not listen to them, if not come to a compromise with them.

We also ensure that our solution will be effective as the project matures.

To generate the solutions we can use several techniques like brainstorming, mind mapping or SCAMPER (substitute, combine, adapt, modify, purpose , eliminate and rearrange). The easier way is get people's opinions and advice from the exact or expect people.

If you used the brainstorming technique with sticky notes from above, you would need to start with evaluating all of the ideas first. If there is a resource (labor, materials, machine, etc.) that is not available for an idea, those notes would need to be discarded. After that, you may want to discuss anything else that could affect the viability of the remaining notes and remove those if necessary. Now that you are down to possible solutions, see what criteria would fit all of them. You need to be able to judge them all using the same method.

A prioritization matrix is a decision-making tool that assists in evaluating and ranking a set of options based on multiple criteria. To create one, first, identify relevant criteria and assign weights to reflect their importance. List the options, evaluate each against the criteria using a numerical scale, and calculate the weighted scores. The total weighted scores help rank the options, with higher scores indicating greater suitability. Re-evaluate the objectives and check what is out of touch. I believe it is also important to involve the team in in defining the path forward. Identify obstacles and remove them. Observe what motivates and what demotivates your team, act accordingly. Last but most certainly not least, be open to communication and celebrate your team and their work - your colleagues need to feel appreciated.

You need to have a document (most likely in Excel) that is maintained by the team that outlines your team project. Project Timeline: Resources (time, money, employees) Responsibilities (list by team member) Metric (which data to use to measure results) Deadlines (by action/step) Adaptability Strategies (for possible changes) Evaluation It's a good idea to have frequent meetings and have a way to ensure the Project Timeline document can be viewed by all team members and is continually updated. Ask team members to update the document based on their area of responsibility, and always have a back-up.

I believe, most effective ways to bring the team around the same table is to build trust withing them, appreciate their inputs as part of the tam, sometimes, feeling responsible = motivations. Team building activities still working to some extent.

Once project is successfully completed, you need to celebrate with the working team cause it’s their achievement. Taking into consideration praising their efforts and specially if there was a team member mistakenly caused some issues to work plan.. this is to encourage him and motivates his will to give more in the future.

I believe one good example of celebrating success with a team is to designate a physical or virtual space where you can display team achievements, milestones, and individual successes. This special area energizes every team member during work.

Celebrate with the team, nothing is disliked more when a leader takes credit for a team effort. So enjoy with them, they deserve some of the success as well.

Every success, regardless of its size, is worth celebrating. It can have a positive impact on other bigger achievements. Celebrating success need not always involve throwing a luxurious party or buying expensive gifts. It can be as simple as taking a holiday for yourself.

I would argue that this step might not only be relevant but necessary before the end. If the project is not going well and the team members feel that negativity, it could be blocking ideas & progress. It’s important to identify & celebrate the parts that ARE going well or the steps in the process that HAVE been achieved thus far. Releasing tension allows for the mind to relax & work more effeciently. Also by doing this, your team can identify WHY those pieces went well & hopefully apply that same methodology to other steps in the project.

I would like to understand the root cause of problem and give the best possible solution, guide my team and be with them till the problem is resolved.

We definitely need to Remember, successful teamwork hinges on patience, adaptability, and effective communication. Identify the Gaps By going back to the drawing board. Before every project begins there is always a blue print or what we call the road map. Check how good the road map is, if some adjustments are needed go back to the drawing board and generate new ideas. Always remain very positive about the project and imagine nothing but victory.
