This has worked, without any exception. Every time! My formula is 1. Read the situation 2. Talk to stakeholders independently 3. Know 'what's in it' for each one. Imagine a two people conflict. Step 1 helps me make some knowledgeable guesses on why the conflict and what each need to resolve. What are the most-desirable and least-desirable outcomes for each and possible tradeoffs. I enter Step 2, mentally prepared for two sessions of individual negotiations. Try to reach an agreement with each before the actual collective discussion. The conflict is resolved not during the meeting, but much before. The collective meeting is to ensure the two leave the room with no bridges burnt, creating a conducive environment to work together in future.

Once conflict has been brought to your attention or identified, short team building exercises can be used to address the conflict. For example, if there is a conflict about how the team communicates with each other, you can have each person share their preferred method of communication. It’s interesting to learn about each individual’s preference and why they prefer the method of communication they choose.

Meeting skills requires finesse to execute. Most meetings are unproductive unless action items are addressed and executed. The best way to conduct meetings are in the form if 1:1 or 1: many check-ins that focus on enhancing the potential, capabilities and talent of the members. Where truth unfolds and each member has the rights within the psychological safe boundaries to give and accept radically transparent feedback. AAR's (After Action Reviews) - the goal of an AAR is not to dig truth for truth’s sake, blame or credit for wrong visibility. It is designed to build shared mental model to be applied for effective execution. These are not led by leaders & members. The goal is to create a flat structure, the good and bad, both was spoken.

Consider sending out anonymous pre-meeting surveys to participants to gather initial insights on the conflict. This allows individuals to express their concerns, preferences, and suggested solutions confidentially.

Before any meeting should know who will participate and what's the subject of it , prepare the agenda and know what's the area of concerns for this subject , to highlight it on the meeting also should have a solution like a draft to discus it on the meeting , as already having a feedback of the concerns before so discuss with involved employee , do a brainstorming , At the end of the meeting concerns should be Solved at least 80 % , by doing like a points and achievable milestones . Every situation on the meeting must be documented inform of Minuets of Meetings ( MOM ) to be like official agreements .

This has worked for me. 1. Establishing a meeting culture that prioritizes respect, active listening, and open communication. Ensure that team members feel safe to voice their concerns without fear of reprisal. 2. Encourage team members to express their opinions and concerns during meetings. Foster an environment where everyone feels free to share their perspectives unjudged. 3. Use conflict resolution techniques which include mediation, negotiation, or problem-solving discussions. 4. Never take sides, be as neutral to avoid one party feeling attack or overly guilty which can affect their output and attitude towards the team. 5. Always get both sides of the stories individually prior to the meeting with the group to avoid team biases.

The important thing here is ensure members are being heard. Equally, it’s to ensure the conversation doesn’t turn into a competition where it feels like some one/ certain parties need to “win”. To avoid disputes, it’s key to vocalise that parties should express their thoughts but also share potential resolutions or share how they wish the situation was tackled/ should be tackled in future. Looking ahead and putting preventative measures in place that makes all parties feel understood and heard is crucial - above all, everyone wants to ensure they feel respected and valued.

Begin team meetings with ground rules that foster respectful dialogue and productivity: Establish participative ground rules by asking members to suggest guidelines everyone can agree to. This promotes shared ownership. Useful examples include: Listen attentively without interrupting. This builds mutual understanding. Avoid personal attacks and blame. Critique ideas, not people. Focus on facts and behaviors, not emotions. Keep it objective. Express opinions respectfully. Allow disagreement. Seek first to understand, then be understood. This builds empathy. Commit to finding mutually acceptable solutions. Compromise when needed.

Encourage participants to put themselves in others' shoes, fostering a deeper understanding of different perspectives. This can be a powerful tool in conflict resolution, as it humanizes the discussion and promotes compassion!

From my experience, when things get tense, I tend to see that it's mostly to do with justice and fairness. One person feels unrecognised for achieving the same targets that someone else gets recognised for, just because the latter is more "visible". If I was a manager, for the sake our objectives, we'd have to come together to talk. I'd probably start with "I'd like to talk about something that's quite difficult with you guys". I think it's important to not take sides but listen to all perspectives objectively, one at a time, and always reiterating the reasons why we are (still) in this job, TOGETHER. Celebrating individual achievements are important, even if achievement come in different forms/metrics

Laying Ground rules to any meeting , especially the heated one’s always helps. It’s important to create a safe space for everyone in that room and let them let it all out without hurting eachother and be there as a mediator and most importantly, make sure u hear everyone out and acknowledge their feelings. When we acknowledge their feelings and validate it for them, you will notice how magically conflicts get resolved. All of this however cant be done over night. As a leader, it’s important to create a space where this trust, freedom and openness..

Listen to find out what people are complaining about to get to the root of the conflict. There are three possibilities: 1. Personal Issues: May include personal attacks and personal tensions. Emotions tend to run high; people are emotionally invested. 2. Professional Issues: Work-related conflicts can often be solved by policy. Complaints about defining job roles and responsibilities or issues with performance indicate professional issues at the core. May include disagreements about work tasks, responsibilities, or work-related policies. 3. Procedural Issues: Procedural conflicts stem from disagreements about processes, procedures, or policies. Procedural issues may include disputes over rules, guidelines, or the way tasks are executed.

It's crucial to divide person and behaviour. When these rules are in place, the communication is much smoother and people are more prone to looking towards the solution together.

When things get tense in a team, I’ve found it’s usually because folks aren’t feeling heard. So, as a leader, think of yourself as a mediator. Kick off a chat and ask everyone to share what’s on their mind. Listen closely and then repeat back what you’ve heard in your own words—this shows you’re genuinely paying attention. Everyone wants their feelings acknowledged, so make sure they know you get where they’re coming from. And remember, a little compliment or a light-hearted joke can do wonders to break the ice. At the end of the day, we’ve all had those moments of teamwork that made us proud. Remind your team of those times, and inspire them to get back there.

There is no one technique which can be used in all conflict handling situations. Styles can be different when dealing with people from one culture to another. One of the action which I personally found effective handling conflict is to meet with disputed parties ahead of the common meeting and understand both sides concerns and reasons of dispute. As a leader this will help you to plan that common meeting. In that meeting, you start with the positive contributions of both sides and what is already aligned. Then you focus on the disputed points. Keep fairness, integrity and openness throughout the meeting. Your goal is to have win win outcomes.

We need to act a moderator to help the concerned parties come up with their thoughts in constructive and transparent manner. It helps them to listen and understand each other views. The idea is to help them with discussion to find the solution with common grounds.

When facilitators master the skill of "holding space", meetings can transform from mere transactional interactions to deeply connective and constructive experiences. It happens in practice that facilitators unconsciously take sides in a conflicting situation. If you know that you are prone to such behaviour, than ask somebody else to take over or join you as a fellow facilitator.

Conflict means someone is not being heard. It’s escalated to this point for a reason. Someone wasn’t listening. No one wants full blown-out problems. If you can catch them earlier, by listening, it won’t get to this point.

If the conflict is escalating or becoming unproductive, step in as a mediator to facilitate the conversation. Help team members to reframe their arguments or find common ground. Mediate if necessary so that the discussion remains respectful and focused on resolving the conflict.

I strongly believe in involving everyone in the process. It's not about imposing a solution from the top; it's about harnessing the collective intelligence of the team. Brainstorming is a valuable tool, but it should be followed by a structured evaluation of the generated ideas. I like to use criteria like feasibility, effectiveness, and alignment with the team's goals to ensure that the best solution is selected. In my experience, fostering a culture of open communication and collaboration is critical. Team members should feel comfortable sharing their ideas and opinions without fear of judgment. This not only helps in conflict resolution but also in overall team creativity and problem-solving.

In an organizational context, conflicts often have ripple effects. Let's take an example where two department heads, Marketing and Sales, are at odds over resource allocation. The action plan should align with the company's overarching objective of achieving higher revenue. One of the action items could be to establish a joint committee comprising members from both departments to collaboratively decide on resource allocation, thereby ensuring alignment with the broader goal.

To define the next steps and not just talking about the theory is important to have the result we would like to have - a good working team.

Without the action plan, you can't even consider the conflict to be close to its resolution. However, monitoring its progress is important as well so a leader can take this role.

Conflict meetings left with open endings are problematic and a waste of time for the meeting that had just occured. To move past the conflict, both parties need to agree on an actionable action plan. This allows them to literally take the next steps beyond the point where they are stuck. Create clear action items with dates, roles and responsibilities as well as acknowledge from the people who are in-charge of each action items.

In my experience, constant work on building a psychologically safe environment can reduce conflicts, plus it gives them a whole other perspective. Just as a feedback, a conflict can be productive and taken negatively.

To effectively mediate team conflicts in meetings, prior leader's self-reflection is crucial. First, they must engage in 1) Constructive Self-Criticism, acknowledging any role they might've played in the disagreement. 2) Self-awareness is key; understanding personal triggers helps prevent exacerbating issues. 3)Through Self-Acceptance, leaders can approach disputes without ego, prioritizing collective growth. 4)By honing Active Listening skills internally, leaders ensure they respond with genuine intent. 5) a leader's Commitment to Personal Growth, learning from each conflict, showcases the importance of adaptability. Leader’s introspection and attitude towards self-growth can then transform conflicts into opportunities for team development

Using meetings to solve problems might not always work well. Sometimes, meetings can make arguments worse and not better. Instead: → Talk one-on-one → Get help from a mediator, or → Try special classes for solving problems. These options make it easier to understand what's wrong and find better answers to make everyone happy.

Rules, guidelines, or team policies can be established based on the insights gathered, ensuring smoother workflows and lesser conflicts moving ahead.

Calling a meeting between conflicting parties is probably the worst way to address the conflict. Don't do it. If you want to solve the issue, meet individually and find out what's going on from both their perspectives. Visit with other observers and get their perspectives. A forced confrontation will only make matters worse.
