Stay Committed: Focus on their long-term success, not just immediate results.

As the key contact, start with a personal introduction. Share a success story, marry that up with the vision of the company- and how your new client aligns with that. It’s easy to overlook the 10 year plan in the excitement of the moment. Thus, I do try to stay grounded and maintain decorum in face of the hype. That’s not to dilute the achievement, but to acknowledge it as a building block and keep the ship dead ahead on target- no good tourist stopping at every island, you’ll never get to the destination.

Here’s the thing: trust isn’t built overnight. It’s the little things—like showing up on time, being honest about what’s doable, and actually listening (not just nodding along while thinking about lunch). Transparency goes a long way too. If there’s a hiccup, own it and fix it fast. Clients appreciate honesty way more than excuses.

Everyone will say, - communication - set expectations - deliver what’s promised - keep your word - lead by example - integrity - ethics - morality - etc etc etc All very good answers….but the magic is when you’re more interested than interesting. Be more interested in them, than you are trying to be interesting to them. What are: - their goals - their dreams - their challenges - their struggles - their successes - their failures - their experiences - their fears - their world…… Set the standard that you are more interested them, than what’s in it for you. ****Here’s the caveat….you have to genuine in your approach. If you’re not genuinely interested in doing what’s best for them, might be time to look for a new career!

While I was working as a Key Accounts Manager at Zomato, what helped me build relationships with new clients was: - Meeting them often in person/Zoom to understand where they come from, how they started this business and what expectations they have from me. - This helped me connect better to their businesses and story, ultimately tailoring my business growth suggestions to them. - Building Trust should always be the first step, followed by implementing strategies that work best for both their and your business.

A relationship of trust is nourished by the attention we pay to others, especially during periods of vulnerability. And finally responsibility and honesty about mistakes : if you make a mistake, be willing to admit it and apologize for it. It will demonstrate maturity and a commitment to keeping the relationship on a sincere basis.
