(edited)Reflective listening is the key. As an interviewer it helps you establish a foundation for a non-judgemental conversation and develop a mutual trust. The people are likely to be more comfortable, expressive and motivated to identify the factors that lead them to make a productive change.

The focus is the belief that everyone is doing the best that they can, they are not broken, and therefore do not need to be fixed or given unsolicited advice. To help in the group is to stay focused on the purpose of empathy, compassion, and radical acceptance.
