Open communication - begin a conversation with curiosity, not criticism. Instead of jumping to conclusions, I’ll ask, “How are things going for you lately?” or “What’s something we could do better to support you?” I've also learned to lean into reverse feedback, asking the team to give me feedback —on decisions, processes, or even how I lead so they know I value their perspective. Humor and authenticity also play a role. I share my mess-ups (there are plenty) to remind everyone that we are still humans doing our best.
