I have found that most people who would thoroughly enjoy an "unforgettable" stay are those who call the hotel directly, people booking on line or have a travel agent take care of their reservations don't care, they are used to the routine. Having your desk team or reservationist know to ask the most (IMHO) question is "What is bringing you to our area?" It could be for a funeral (a sympathy card in the room or at check in) for an anniversary (flowers or candies or discount at your restaurant) or I grew up there and haven't been back in XXX Years, (a map of the area, restaurant recommendations etc) will make their stay unforgettable by asking "What brings you to the area)
