GKIDS, in association with Shout Factory, will release on Blu-ray Satoshi Kon's cult psychological thriller Perfect Blue (1997). The release will be available for purchase on March 26.
Synopsis:
The directorial debut of acclaimed director Satoshi Kon (Paprika, Millennium Actress), the critically-acclaimed Perfect Blue has frequently been hailed as one of the most important animated films of all time.
In Perfect Blue, rising pop star Mima has quit singing to pursue a career as an actress and model, but her fans aren't ready to see her go. Encouraged by her managers, Mima takes on a recurring role on a popular TV show, when suddenly her handlers and collaborators begin turning up murdered. Harboring feelings of guilt and haunted by visions of her former self, Mima's reality and fantasy meld into a frenzied paranoia. As her stalker closes in, in person and online, the threat he poses is more real than even Mima knows, in this iconic psychological thriller.

What is "Original SD Version of Feature (Japanese mono Dolby Digital 2.0 with English subtitles)"? Does it mean that the HD version is modified in some way or not available with Japanese soundtrack?
One of the greatest/my personal favorite animated films of all time. I wished Criterion would do a release of this but i'm impressed with the bonus features and I will buy this first day irregardless, I've waited WAY too long for this release!
Hmmmmmm new remaster? wonder if they are adding stuff very weird to see as supplements they have the original sd version included on the blu ray. I would much prefer they released a blu ray/dvd pack and on the dvd include this feature, still gonna buy this as I have never owned it on any format just hope months later a better version does not come out which I could see a 2k/4k master coming out.
This is Fantastic Anime, which inspired Aronofsky's BLACK SWAN. Not sure if I'm going to upgrade my DVD, but if I didn't have it, I'd be picking up this Blu, 100%. @Pondosinatra : No.
Really interesting and weird movie. Very terrifying. Would highly recommend. I'm quite happy this is getting a Blu-ray release, but I think it is quite funny that a label with 'KIDS' in its name is putting this out.
I remember watching 12 or 15 years ago. Rented from Netflix when I was on an anime binge. Remember bits and pieces, but not all of it. Remember it being really f***ed up movie.
Oh, and I saw Perfect Blue in the theater back in September, it was screened around the US for one of those "Fathom Events" (anybody else go to one of these for this film?). It was great to see on the big screen.
OMG I can't wait. I was so obsessed with this movie back in the day. I even had the "excuse me, who are you?" as my voicemail greeting. Day one buy for me.
A day one purchase for sure, but I'm still confused as to what they mean by Original SD Version of Feature (Japanese mono Dolby Digital 2.0 with English subtitles)...I'm hoping that there's an HD version with both Japanese and English tracks on this combo package...
