Surface UEFI Configurator not formatting USB or adding DFI files
Going through the steps provided to migrate Surface Hub 2s to Windows 10 Pro at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-hub/surface-hub-2s-migrate-os#prepare-the-semm-certificate
Getting hung up with Surface UEFI Configurator doing absolutely nothing after clicking BUILD.
USB drive selected is not formatted as the tool says, and no DFI files are created on the USB stick either. Rebooted, tried many times with the same result - nothing happens. No DFI files found on the entire system either.
I've had no problems using the SurfaceDeploymentAccelerator - https://github.com/microsoft/SurfaceDeploymentAccelerator/blob/master/README.md to create images, but assuming I NEED to have the UEFI & SEMM stuff figured out in order to use the Windows 10 Pro image created with SDA.
Any help?
- Ibrahim87Copper ContributorI’ll begin by outlining the necessary steps to recover a Surface Book 2, then I’ll share my comments and feedback. If your Surface Book 2 fails to boot and you don’t have a pre-prepared image on a USB drive, it can be extremely frustrating. This situation is particularly painful when the Windows logo starts flashing, followed by a boot failure and an error message stating “.Dfi file not found.” This issue is often due to the root base software that your Surface relies on to boot, in addition to the Windows OS files. It’s important to note that most publicly shared laptops and PCs are domain-restricted, making it almost impossible to use your USB to create an online image, so trying to do so can be a waste of time. Later today, I will provide a resolution for this issue using your iPhone, believe it or not.

Ibrahim87 what was the solution ?

ADoran I had opened a support case regarding the issues I was experiencing, it was suggested I use a non-domain joined PC which was not mentioned in the documentation or steps provided in the link I included.
Brought in a personal laptop non-domain joined and had no problems at all creating the SEMM package on USB stick. Little frustrating that this detail was omitted from the documentation and steps provided.
Hope this helps anyone else running into the same problems.
- NeftechCopper ContributorHi ADoran,
I realise this is long dead but I'm trying to perform essentially the same thing, SEMM via the UEFI, i get the error SERIALXXX_ surfacexxx.dfi not found after creating the usb and trying to install it. I've tried domain joined and not on both windows 10 and 11. Any ideas?
Thanks so much in advance- cezarcretuMicrosoft
