We’ve seen and implemented great research developments in machine learning applications this year at Weaviate 👀 Here are some of our favorites 🔽 🌰 ACORN - We made filtered vector search queries up to 10x faster by implementing methods described in the ACORN paper Paper: https://lnkd.in/ga-vNpJT Blog: https://lnkd.in/gi4Y3X-c 📎 Late Chunking - We explored how this technique from Jina AI could balance precision and cost in long context retrieval Paper: https://lnkd.in/gmgXkmxW Blog: https://lnkd.in/eXcgBzuj 🪆 Matryoshka Embeddings - We talked about how this new technique for training embedding models can help you store more information at a lower cost and search for it faster Paper: https://lnkd.in/gUPJwavh Blog: https://lnkd.in/dtWpBqKc 🦾 DSPy - We learned how to better prompt our language models with DSPy, even implementing it in a few internal tools Paper: https://lnkd.in/dQRESmsN Blog: https://lnkd.in/equBWSCp 🃏 Binary Quantization - We continued to explore quantization techniques, including implementing a 32x Reduced Memory Usage With Binary Quantization Blog: https://lnkd.in/djVTZmT4

What a way to end the year of hack nights at Weaviate. Hack Nights were never a part of my job description, but growth is. And defining a community event format that helps grow Weaviate and create organic interest in the vector database very much fits into my definition of Growth. Through Hack Night alone, we grew so many net new developer partnerships, connecting Weaviate to tons of hyper growth companies. We also grew a developer community of almost 5000 members, many of whom came out to hack night building incredible projects with weaviate and our amazing partners. We also collected over 1000+ units of developer feedback for all companies who join at Hack Night through a platform I've been hacking on in my spare time called HackrSquad. Hack night in Berlin was incredibly special for me. I saw familiar faces from my developer activation events in San Francisco, to meeting hundreds of new faces building on our technologies in Berlin. Special thanks to the companies (Jina AI, Fiberplane, Arize AI, AssemblyAI, deepset, Langfuse (YC W23), Unbody, Restack, Neon) who partnered with us at Weaviate in Berlin and to the community who made the night extra special. 2024 was a banger, I'm stoked for 2025. Let's Go!
