Ohne Kooperationen ist ein solches Projekt nur sehr schwer bis überhaupt nicht möglich. In diesem speziellen Fall haben sich die Unternehmen VideowindoW - Transform Windows Into Screens, Arnold Glas und LamiPress zusammengefunden. Im Grunde besteht die Video Window Wall aus einer Unterkonstruktion mit schaltbaren Gläsern. Durch die Ansteuerung an die Technologie von VideowindoW eröffnen sich daraus viele Möglichkeiten, die weit über die Funktion einer Sicht- und Sonnenschutzverglasung hinausgehen. Mit einer Verbindung zu Spotify kann ein Song mit inklusive der dazugehörigen Textzeilen angespielt werden. Auch jedes beliebige Video kann wiedergegeben werden. Einer der möglichen Einsatzorte wäre beispielsweise ein Flughafen, unter anderem könnte Werbung auf der Video Window Wall wirksam in Szene gesetzt werden.     I got interesting news from Remco Veenbrink and their new developments since I visited in their office in June. The consortium of Arnold Glas, LamiPress, and VideowindoW - Transform Windows Into Screens is presenting a 45m² segmented tintable glass façade at "Glass Technology Live," showcasing the future of glare control and smart building integration. By combining expert façade design, advanced glass laminates, and sensor-driven systems, this façade adapts to environmental conditions to optimize energy consumption and improve occupant comfort. Sensors collect real-time data to adjust light transmittance and thermal properties, reducing the need for artificial lighting and climate control.   A key feature is Biophilic Glare Control, which mimics natural patterns to manage glare while enhancing well-being. Inspired by nature, this dynamic system controls 72 million pixels in a seamless 12K image, creating an immersive environment that balances functional glare control with aesthetic appeal. The use of procedural content, such as shifting light patterns, reduces eye strain and provides a more comfortable experience.   This innovation represents the first step toward standardizing smart façades that not only manage light and temperature but also serve as communication platforms. While testing for solar and thermal performance is ongoing, initial results are promising. Attendees at "Glass Technology Live" can experience the dynamic potential of this façade throughout the exhibition, highlighting the consortium’s commitment to advancing sustainable, responsive building technologies.     I am excited to announce that in the past few months, I have successfully completed my MSc in Building Technology at Delft University of Technology. 🎓 💫 My thesis, titled 'The Effect of Biophilic Glare Control on Occupant Perception: A Laboratory Experiment' evaluates occupant perception under different pattern scenarios exposed in a dynamic facade technology by VideowindoW - Transform Windows Into Screens and presents a novel experimental setup in an office setting. Daylight plays a crucial role in promoting well-being, health, and performance, particularly in workspaces. However, achieving an optimal balance between natural light exposure and glare control remains a significant challenge in modern facade design. Conventional shading systems often limit access to daylight, affecting both visual comfort and productivity. To address this, adaptive facade systems offer innovative solutions by dynamically adjusting to changing light conditions. The focus of my research was on VideowindoW product, a dynamic facade technology consisting of liquid crystals that can alter the optical properties of the glazing, designed to improve indoor environmental quality through biophilic patterns. The experimental study evaluated occupant perception under different pattern scenarios with the same average transparency—tree pattern, striped pattern and no-pattern—in a controlled office lab. Various aspects such as glare perception, visual comfort, daylight satisfaction, view satisfaction, and aesthetic preferences were systematically assessed through experiments with 44 human participants. Physical measurements and subjective responses were collected and analyzed to identify differences among the scenarios. Key findings revealed that the tree pattern significantly reduced glare compared to the striped pattern and showed a tendency to reduce glare compared to the no-pattern condition. Participants overwhelmingly preferred the tree pattern for its aesthetic appeal and connection to nature. They also reported greater acceptance of view obstruction with the tree and no-pattern conditions compared to the striped pattern. These results suggest that incorporating biophilic patterns into facade designs can enhance occupant satisfaction and support the integration of automated shading systems.
