Over ons
Tony’s Chocolonely is an impact company that makes chocolate, committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. And not just the cocoa in our chocolate, but in all chocolate worldwide. Tony's Chocolonely was founded in 2005 by 3 journalists from the Dutch TV show ‘Keuringsdienst van Waarde’ after they discovered that the world’s largest chocolate manufacturers were buying cocoa from plantations that used illegal labor. Since then, we've dedicated our efforts to raising awareness of and eliminating inequality in the cocoa industry, becoming the #1 chocolate brand in the Netherlands. With incredibly tasty chocolate, we lead by example and show the world that chocolate can be made differently: in taste, packaging and the way we do business with cocoa farmers. Starting with paying them a higher price. Alone, we’ll end exploitation in our cocoa supply chain, but together we can change the industry across the globe. That's why we invite everyone to join our commitment. 'Cause it's only together that we'll end exploitation in cocoa.

Another story to sweeten your scroll! 📣🍫 We’re back with another Bar of the Month post, celebrating how other brands have used our custom chocolate bars to tell their stories. This time, we’re unwrapping a festive treat from feltenpersonal, who crafted a custom bar to spread some joy among their team. 🎄✨ They went full-on holiday mode, designing a bar that’s basically a chocolate version of your nan’s knitted sweater – cozy, nostalgic and (thankfully) way tastier. Plus, the design nods to their tradition of gifting Christmas trees to their employees every year. They delivered their very merry masterpiece along with their December pay slips, staying true to their motto: “Sweets in every pay slip.” Feeling inspired? Incoming: award-winning impact! 🥳🤩 We’ve just won Gold at the 4th annual The Anthem Awards for our 2022/23 annual FAIR report + campaign! Out of over 2,000 entries from 30+ countries, we stood out as leaders in impact. Every year, our FAIR report is radically transparent, tracking and sharing the progress we’ve made towards ending exploitation in the cocoa industry. 🌍 We include figures companies don’t normally share, like the prevalence of child labor, which is far lower than the industry average (10.5% vs. 46.7%), and our carbon footprint. Why? 💡 Because by sharing our progress, we hold ourselves accountable to our commitments, all while showing the world that together, we will break the mold to end exploitation in cocoa. A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible – and to everyone who’s taken the time to learn more about the positive impact we’re making together. 🤝 Wanna know how we scaled our impact in 2023/24? Stay tuned for our next report! #AnthemAwards #TonysChocolonely #bcorp #impactreport #AFR #marketingcampaign #impactcampaign #cocoa #chocolate #breakthemold

We’ve brewed up something big! 🤩 Our milk chocolate gingerbread bars are now available at Starbucks in the US! 🥳☕️ By launching our chunky, holiday-flavored choc at 14,000 (!!) Starbucks locations, we’re expanding across the pond and taking a big step towards our goal of ending exploitation in cocoa. ’Cause more chocolate sold equals more beans sourced according to Tony’s 5 Sourcing Principles, positively impacting more cocoa farmers in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.🤝 Psst.. Tony’s 5 Sourcing Principles include paying farmers a higher price long-term + investing in farmers and their farms, enabling them to earn a living income and become more resilient to climate change. So next time you get yourself a coffee, grab a bar too – and join us in making cocoa fairer. 🌎🍫 #TonysChocolonely #chocolate #Starbucks #festiveseason #holidays #cocoa #endingexploitation #fairtrade #breakthemold

Tell your story with our bars. 📣🍫 At Tony’s, we’re big fans of using our choc to share our story. That’s why all our bars are unequally divided and our wrappers explain how the chocolate industry is too. And when sharing our story, we invite everyone to join our movement for change. ✊ ’Cause we know we can’t change the industry alone. And that’s exactly where you come in. Because with our custom wrappers, you can share *your* unique story and join our fight to end exploitation in cocoa. 🤝 While our bars + inside wrapper will remain the same, the front stage is all yours. 🍫✨ And from this month onwards, we’ll be sweetening your feed with our “Bar of the Month” series – aka our new monthly celebration to give you some tasty inspiration. First up: Therabody, a US-based wellness brand that made custom bars for their latest product launch. 🥳👇 Psst.. Wanna put your story on our bar? Albert Heijn just massively amped up its impact!💯🥳 The Dutch supermarket chain has committed to sourcing cocoa via Tony’s Open Chain for all (yes, all!) of its own brand products. Back in 2019, Albert Heijn was the first to join our fight to end exploitation in cocoa, committing to using Tony’s Open Chain cocoa for all of their Delicata chocolate bars. And now, they’re cranking up the volume.. 📈 Within the next 3 years, all cocoa in Albert Heijn’s products – from chocolate bars to chocolate sprinkles – will be sourced through Tony’s Open Chain, which will almost triple (!!) the number of beans they buy from our partner co-ops. 🎉 This means that all of their cocoa will be sourced responsibly, according to our 5 Sourcing Principles. ✅ They include paying farmers a higher price long-term and tracing every bean to drive down child labor + prevent deforestation. Albert Heijn’s the first retailer to source all cocoa via Tony’s Open Chain – and we sure hope it inspires others to do the same. 🤝 Sooo… Who’s next?! 👀 #TonysOpenChain #AlbertHeijn #responsiblesourcing #fairtrade #cocoa #chocolate #endingexploitation

As if we’d ever! But The Chocopocalypse is coming if we don’t act now.. Cocoa farmers are in crisis, due to: - Climate shocks - Crop diseases - Decades of systemic underpayment The result? Less cocoa to sell (-30%) = more farmers in poverty. And if things carry on like this, it’s a recipe for choco disaster. ❌🍫 At Tony’s, we won’t have to mess with our choc (phew!) – ’cause we’ve got the sweet solution.. 👇 We (+ our 19 Mission Allies) source cocoa responsibly via Tony’s Open Chain, according to our 5 Sourcing Principles. This means fully traceable beans, paying farmers a higher price long-term and investing in them + their farms, so they’re more climate resilient. And the proof is in the beans! The farmers we work with earn more + produce more cocoa compared to the industry average. ✅ But we need you (yes, you!) to help prevent The Chocopocalypse, so we can keep crazy tasty chocolate in our lives forever. Together 🤝, we can change the future – bite by bite. Choose change. Choose Tony’s Open Chain. #chocopocalypse #cocoa #crisis #tonyschocolonely #tonysopenchain #impact #chocolate
