Last month, around 200 colleagues from across Scheldebouw gathered to raise a glass in honour of production team member Cees Schout, who retired after a remarkable 51 years with our company. Cees began his career at the ‘Schelde company school’ and worked as a spot welder on naval ships and related components. Over the past half-century he has been involved in over 75 Scheldebouw projects, spanning 8 different countries! All our thanks to Cees – a loyal, calm colleague who will be much missed by all of us at Scheldebouw. Have a fantastic retirement! #retirement #LongService #PermasteelisaGroup #OurPeople

A landmark moment from our project at 334 Oxford Street in London, where the first façade panels have now been installed. Some of the existing structure has been demolished and rebuilt, while other parts are being maintained. The final building will include a retail area on the lower levels, including louvres, stick work system and a transition panel finished with glass reinforced concrete (GRC). Levels 2 to 9 will be office space, with reeded glass and opaque spandrels finished with vertical extrusions in 12 different anodised colours. A horizontal stream course at every floor will be realised with GRC, assembled in panels at our factory. Level 10 will include a unitised pavilion at the front and a plant room at the back, masked by an aluminium rain screen panel with a fence to allow greenery to grow. There will also be eight winter gardens, with a spandrel and sliding door system, and three terraces with planter boxes. In total, we are providing 11,000 sqm of façade. Thanks to our partners on this project, including architect Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and main contractor Lendlease. #London #development #construction #facades #PermasteelisaGroup

Sinterklaas – otherwise known as Saint Nicholas – has taken time out of his busy schedule to visit the children of Scheldebouw! On consecutive Saturdays at the end of November, Sinterklaas made his way in his horse-drawn carriage to our sites in Middelburg and Heerlen. As well as costumes and face-painting, there were gifts for all colleagues' children aged 0 to 8 years. This annual celebration is a colourful, magical way to bring together the families of Scheldebouw. Excitement is now building for the festival of St. Nicholas' Eve on 5 December! #Sinterklaas #holidays #family #OurPeople #PermasteelisaGroup

The insightful video below features two of our colleagues – Janneke Verkerk-Evers, Sustainability Leader, and Tim Debets, Lead Concept Design – focusing on how our industry can accelerate the transition to low-carbon façades. Janneke and Tim were invited to take part in a study with fellow experts from Arup and Turner & Townsend alinea exploring cost-effective, carbon-reducing solutions for commercial façades. Focusing on a typical unitised curtain wall system with 60% glazing and vertical fins, six impactful actions were identified. These were then presented at an engaging roundtable session with other industry professionals, providing invaluable insights into feasibility, potential challenges and additional opportunities. Look out for publication of findings from the roundtable next month. If you would like to find out more about the points raised in the video, please don’t hesitate to connect with Janneke Verkerk-Evers or Tim Debets. #SustainableDesign #LowCarbon #NetZero #facades #PermasteelisaGroup

Great news from on site at 2 Aldermanbury Square in London, where we have started installation of the first façade panels. Once complete, the 13-storey building developed by GPE will provide almost 300,000 sqm of office space in the heart of the City of London. Sustainability is at the heart of the development, with challenging targets set to reduce the project’s embodied carbon. Congratulations to our design team, production colleagues in Middelburg and the installation site team for a fantastic collaborative effort to reach this milestone. Thanks also to our partners on this project, including architect Allies and Morrison, main contractor Lendlease, developer GPE, and structural and façade engineer Arup. #London #development #construction #facades #PermasteelisaGroup

Fantastic photographs showcasing our work on the iconic new Booking.com city campus in Amsterdam. The 65,000 sqm building was designed by UNStudio as a socially, physically and mentally healthy working environment that encourages employees to move and creates as much natural light as possible. The façade solutions required to achieve this were complex and unique. In total, we engineered, produced and assembled around 15,000 sqm of façade structures, including element façades, post-and-beam façades, structural glass façades, and the structure for three atrium roofs. Aluminium was used with structural glazing for maximum transparency, keeping the dimensions of the aluminium profiles as small as possible and engineering to tolerances of a few millimetres. Reflecting on the final building, project manager Joost Schins comments: “We think along with the architect at a high level and then translate this into a feasible and efficient façade system. Clients can entrust the entire building envelope to us, and we also take care of the coordination, project management, supply chain and assembly.” Well done to the whole Scheldebouw team involved in creating this new, prestigious addition to architecture in the Netherlands. #Amsterdam #architecture #facades #PermasteelisaGroup

We are delighted to share the news that the Turing Building – a next-generation commercial office development in London’s Stratford Cross – has reached practical completion. Designed by Arney Fender Katsalidis (AFK Studios), the building’s articulation, scale and depth achieve a form that is distinct and memorable, but also harmonious with neighbouring structures. We developed an innovative, bespoke low-carbon closed cavity façade (CCF) system for the building. In total, we designed, engineered, manufactured and installed 6,800 sqm of CCF facade, 9,800 sqm of unitised system façade, and 2,900 sqm of stick system façade and specials. Through exceptional workspace design – including flexible floorplans, natural light, better air quality, outdoor working spaces, and layouts that foster collaboration – The Turing Building makes people’s wellness a priority. Thanks in part to the low-carbon façade, the building is on track to achieve BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Gold. Congratulations to all our partners on this project, including AFK Studios, main contractor Lendlease and structural engineer Ramboll. #development #office #London #sustainability #facades #PermasteelisaGroup #CCF

On United Nations World Cities Day, we wanted to shine a spotlight on the part we have played in shaping the skyline of Rotterdam in our home country, the Netherlands. In particular, four buildings with Scheldebouw façades are central to life in the busy port city: 🏙 Timmerhuis – one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the Netherlands and home to a museum, retail outlets, offices and luxury apartments 🏙 B-Tower – a 19-storey, 70m high residential building at the heart of the city centre 🏙 De Rotterdam – a riverside building conceived as a ‘vertical city’, housing offices, apartments, a hotel, conference facilities, shops and restaurants across a surface of around 162,000 sq m 🏙 Maastoren – the second tallest building in the Netherlands at 165m, commissioned as the Dutch headquarters of Deloitte We’re proud to play a part in creating buildings like these – striking visual landmarks that are also vibrant, sustainable, safe spaces for people to live, work and play. #Rotterdam #cities #WorldCitiesDay #PermasteelisaGroup #facades
