Ore Energy is a spin-out company from TU Delft, developing a new generation, low-cost, multi-day energy storage system. Officially launched in 2023, our aim is to develop a battery technology and a long‑duration storage product that will enhance the integration of renewable energy and enable a 100% decarbonized electricity grid at all times. We are seeking experienced battery engineers, research scientists, technicians, and lab professionals who are excited to shape the foundational technologies of tomorrow’s electricity grid.

    Water, lucht en ijzer zijn de belangrijkste componenten van de batterij die Ore Energy, een spin-off van de TU Delft, heeft ontwikkeld. De batterij werkt op het principe van roesten en ontroesten, bevat geen kritieke materialen en wordt geproduceerd in Europa. “De meest geavanceerde batterijtechnologie op het moment zijn lithium-ion batterijen. Maar lithium-ion batterijen gebruiken materialen zoals lithium, nikkel en kobalt. En wij gebruiken vooral ijzer, water en lucht”, vertelt oprichter Aytac Yilmaz. “We hebben de technologie niet uitgevonden, die komt eigenlijk uit eind jaren ‘60. Toen is die in Zweden en de Verenigde Staten uitgevonden en was oorspronkelijk bedoeld voor elektrische auto’s. Maar in de jaren ‘60 en ‘70 waren elektrische auto’s nog niet een big thing, dus de technologie is lang op de plank blijven liggen. Maar nu we zoveel hernieuwbare energie hebben, is de behoefte aan de batterij er weer.”

We need long duration energy storage to store renewables for when and where we need it. The recent G7 ministerial meeting emphasized the importance of increasing global power storage capacity, including LDES, to strengthen energy security and accelerate clean energy transitions.
