So, that was it for 2024. Well, for the working year, anyway. 😄 And while we do have something special planned for those of you working over the holidays, this is where most Clim-Eaters disconnect. 👋 ✨ 🎥 For the last video of the year, we asked our people for their highlights of 2024. See you all next year 🤝 💚

It's not Christmas quite yet! Earlier this week, we focused on the journey toward COP30 in Brazil next year and the critical need for methane mitigation. During an official THINK-Table event in Utrecht, the Netherlands, we partnered with the Netherlands Food Partnership to identify the key knowledge gaps and pinpoint actionable opportunities to reduce methane emissions. So, where do the greatest opportunities lie on the road to COP30? To find out, we brought together voices from both the public and private sectors. 🎥In the video below, Gregory Kohler, Şeyda Özkan, Ward Mosmuller, Patty Fong, Michael Kwame Nkonu, Saskia Visser, and Dr Dhanush Dinesh share their perspectives on unlocking solutions for meaningful methane mitigation. Check it out!

Check out the (many) small friends pictured with Wiebe and Kevin in the first photo below. That's the 'black soldier fly.' 😎 Clim-Eat is on a mission to identify and scale #innovations to transform our #foodsystems. And this little guy could be a key part of it. Yesterday, we were shown the black soldier fly's promise while visiting the ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology. Our little friends hold multiple benefits: ↳ the Black Soldier Fly feeds on organic waste (!), reducing emissions from waste that otherwise is left unused; ↳ the Black Soldier Fly holds a high protein content, making it ideal for high-quality livestock feed; ↳ byproducts from the Black Soldier Fly have multiple purposes: frass (insect by-product) can be used for organic fertilizer production, the fly's powder is suitable for human consumption, and there are even options to use the byproducts for biofuel production! But to transform these small insects into big benefits, we need to address several matters to make this innovation fly ( 😉 ): ↳ global regulatory standards to ensure quality and regulated production ↳ tailored financial services for small-scale producers to boost scaling the innovation. Are you working on technologies that can transform our food systems? Don't let this opportunity fly by ( 🤭 ), and reach out to us!

As we head off to relax, reflect, celebrate and prepare for the New Year, I'd like to share my lessons from founding Clim-Eat and becoming a social entrepreneur over the past 3 years. It has by no means been an easy journey, and I have learnt an incredible lot, especially: 1️⃣ Challenge ‘the system’ at your peril 2️⃣ Thankfully, innovation is alive and well 3️⃣ Startups can leave you run down if you don’t look out for yourself Do check out my article if you'd like to learn more 👇🏾 But most importantly, we are still standing three years down the line, and not just standing, but thriving by continuing to challenge the status quo, doing super cool work, and constantly finding hope and inspiration 💪🏾 This is thanks to my amazing colleagues, friends and partners, a huge thanks to 🙏🏾 Wiebe Smit | Leanne Zeppenfeldt | Bruce M. Campbell | Philip Thornton | Senni Alho | Martin Simenrud | Annebelle Rombach | Daan Schuttenbelt | Ian Salihbegović | Neil Palmer | Ratih Septivita | Sylvi Martdiawati | Kevin Gitau Ng'ang'a | Weronika Kubiczek | Suzanne Bakker | Viktoria de Bourbon de Parme | Myrtille Danse | Ishmael Sunga | Jessica Fanzo | Lini Wollenberg | Andy Jarvis | Dario Soto Abril | Nina Saalismaa | Soojin Kim | Jennifer Braun | Ana Maria Loboguerrero | Gregory Kohler | Carlos Alvarado Quesada | Eugenia Carrara | Purvi Mehta | Bruno Brasil | Lucas du Pré | Dr. Timmo Gaasbeek | Alison Rose | Gabriela Burian (she/her) 🇧🇷🇫🇷🇨🇿🇺🇸 | Marcel van Nijnatten | Ivo Demmers | Soojin Kim | Leigh Winowiecki 🙏🏾 And many more (but I reached the mention limit) More exciting work to come in the New Year, meanwhile, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas 🎅🏾 and wonderful holidays 🙌🏾

🌍...↔️...🍎 🌍..↔️..🍎 🌍🤝🍎 #Climate and #nutrition ought to be seen together. And we're connecting the dots! But how can we measure the climate-nutrition nexus for real impact? Our recent Think-Table tackled this question head-on, exploring game-changing indicators for national policy. The discussion, inspired by Clim-Eat’s latest Policy Brief, revealed: ✅ Keep it simple: Focus on a concise set of actionable indicators. ✅Context is key: Indicators must reflect diverse realities, from dietary shifts in high-income nations to food access in low-income areas. ✅Leverage existing tools: Build on established resources like those from FAO, World Bank and I-CAN. ✅Track progress and outcomes: Balance outcome indicators (e.g., dietary diversity ) with process ones (e.g. level of policy integration). Thank you to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the European Commission for their support in putting this missing conversation on the agenda. A more detailed summary is coming your way, so stay tuned 😎 🔗 In the meantime, explore more about the Nutrition-Climate Game-Changers project on our website 👉 https://lnkd.in/esCUGBUG

Lately, we have talked about connecting the dots between #nutrition and #climate. As part of this work, we recently published a Policy Brief on game-changing actions in the #foodsystem for achieving both climate change and nutrition outcomes. 🔗Access the Policy Brief here: https://lnkd.in/esCUGBUG Continuing this work, we are delighted to announce a new position paper co-published in collaboration with the Netherlands Working Group on international Nutrition (NWGN). In the paper, we take a closer look at the role of animal-sourced foods in low- and middle-income countries. 🔗Access the position paper here: https://lnkd.in/dmTfwM5t

Have we fallen into a coordination doom loop where we are coordinating for the wrong reasons? I think so, and this was my key takeaway from COP29 Azerbaijan 😤 In my Op-Ed in Rural 21 - The International Journal for Rural Development this week, I urge funders to stop funding this doom loop of coordination👇🏾 Please, a little less coordination and a LOT more action 🙏🏾
Less coordination and more action, please

In an earnest call in Rural 21 - The International Journal for Rural Development, Dhanush urges funders to think twice before putting more money into the 'coordination' initiatives that have flourished in recent years. Read the full story 👉 https://lnkd.in/eQbrv66n

Are you 'hands-on'? A 'self-starter'? A 'proactive team player'? 😅 .... or do you slightly cringe at corporate lingo and prefer just getting stuff done? 😎 Looks like you're our next Projects Trainee! 👉👉👉 https://lnkd.in/ed7FSmvf
