Renewable Energy Power Generation

We make clean energy more efficient and profitable than fossil fuels

עלינו

LAVA addresses the key challenges of renewable energy: efficiency, intermittency, and financial viability. Its proprietary liquid-based thermodynamic cycle operates at near-perfect efficiency (70-80% of Carnot), significantly improving both the efficiency and economics of heat-to-electricity and electricity-to-heat conversion. The company’s roadmap features an isothermal heat engine that converts heat into zero-emission electricity, a high-efficiency isothermal heat pump offering a clean alternative to emission-heavy industrial boilers, and the Carnot Battery for long-duration storage, capable of turning any solar or wind installation into reliable baseload power. Designed for low CAPEX and high efficiency, Lava delivers strong returns on investment with short payback periods, making clean energy not only a responsible choice but also a sound financial decision.

  • A groundbreaking International Energy Agency (IEA) report reveals we're at a pivotal moment for geothermal energy. New technologies are unlocking untapped potential, making geothermal viable almost anywhere in the world. The numbers are staggering: geothermal could provide 800 GW of clean, dispatchable power by 2050 - enough to power the equivalent of today's United States and India combined. What makes this moment special? Emerging technologies can dramatically reduce costs, making geothermal one of the most competitive sources of clean, reliable power. This isn't just about power generation - geothermal can provide heating, cooling, and energy storage. As global energy systems transition to low-carbon sources, reliable baseload renewable power will be essential for maintaining grid stability and energy security. The future of clean energy depends on two critical challenges: making geothermal power more cost-effective and developing affordable long-duration energy storage. At LAVA, we're developing more efficient heat-to-power conversion and advanced thermal storage systems to help unlock geothermal's massive potential as a reliable, clean energy source. Imagine a world where renewable energy is as abundant, reliable, and cheap as traditional power. That's what LAVA (formerly Luminescent) makes possible with its proprietary isothermal technology. The renewable energy transition faces two hurdles: intermittent generation and efficiency losses.Lava addresses both with liquid-based isothermal technology that achieves the previously impossible – converting heat to electricity at near-perfect efficiency. Lava’s roadmap includes three solutions: an isothermal heat engine that converts heat into zero-emission electricity, a heat pump replacing emission-heavy industrial boilers, and their flagship Carnot battery – integrating the first two technologies to transform intermittent solar and wind into reliable 24/7 clean energy. By fundamentally rethinking thermodynamics, this team isn't just improving renewable energy – they're revolutionizing the course of energy transition.

Today marks an important milestone in our company's evolution: Luminescent is now LAVA. 🌋 As we've evolved, we’ve recognized the need to make our technology easier to understand. That's why we've rebranded and introduced our new name. Why LAVA? Because sometimes the simplest answer is the most powerful one. LAVA is a more literal representation of our liquid-based solutions that transform heat into clean energy. The name connects us to something we all understand - molten rock flowing with tremendous thermal power. Learn more at lavapower.com. Thank you, Keren Soref, for your brilliant creative work! • On July 22, 2024, earth hit the hottest day in recent history: a 17.16°C global average. This isn't just another hot day; it's a wake-up call. Data from Copernicus ECMWF (C3S) shows a worrying trend: the last ten years, from 2015 to 2024, hold the highest annual maximum daily average temperatures recorded in the ERA5 dataset. The significant jump from the previous record in 2016 to the recent temperatures in 2023 and 2024 underscores the urgency of addressing climate change.   C3S Director Carlo Buontempo puts it bluntly: "We are now in truly uncharted territory."   Achieving a significant shift in this trajectory will remain a challenge unless fossil fuel reliance is dramatically decreased. This can only happen with technological breakthroughs that will:  1. Overcome intermittency of renewable energy sources ensuring constant, reliable power 2. Develop financially viable and more efficient energy storage technologies 3. Maximize the efficiency of renewable energy sources   At Luminescent, we're creating transformational technologies addressing these challenges, making clean energy not just viable, but inevitable. https://lnkd.in/euwUQ5HS

  • Doron Tamir, our CEO, on the powerful insights shared by Dr. Eric Toone at the Breakthrough Energy Summit. Dr. Toone's vision for maximizing available resources with technology is truly inspiring. We are deeply motivated to tackle these challenges head-on to achieve a better future.

Energy is prosperity: Last week at the Breakthrough Energy Summit, Dr. Eric Toone gave the most inspiring presentation on energy I've ever heard. He provided an insightful retrospective on energy consumption and an optimistic look at how we can harness natural resources and emergent technologies to arrive at a #netzero future. Toone highlighted the journey from the first Industrial Revolution to our current energy system and the obstacles to decarbonization. The Tesla Gigafactory example—storing only three minutes of U.S. grid energy annually—illustrates the vast energy storage needs and underscores the criticality of advancing our technologies. He discussed the advancements in wind and solar, noting their value in producing cheap electricity but emphasizing their inadequacy for dispatchable electricity. If we rely on electricity for this transition, it must be reliable. Intermittent sources lead to shortages, forcing the use of fossil fuels to fill the gaps, which has significant consequences. Toone stressed that if we can’t rely on intermittent energy sources, we must think of alternatives. We have three main energy sources: the sun, advanced #geothermal, and nuclear energy. Innovation and realistic approaches are essential to unlock the potential of these resources. Our energy systems are intricately woven into every aspect of life. From petroleum's diverse uses to the necessity of understanding the magnitude of our transition challenges, achieving a #net-zero future demands hard work and a clear vision. Toone emphasized the importance of recognizing the complexity of the energy transition challenge, stating, “There is no easy button to push here. It’s hard work, and it’s going to take a long time.” #Decarbonization is achievable if we prioritize solutions that maximize our available resources with better efficiency. As a co-founder of a #climatetech company dedicated to this exact challenge, I am deeply motivated by this mission. • Celebrating our inspiration, muse, and guiding light: This summer marks the bicentennial of the publication of Sadi Carnot's groundbreaking treatise, "Reflections on the Motive Power of Fire" (1824). Carnot's work became the foundation for modern #thermodynamics and inspired countless innovators to design more efficient heat engines. At Luminescent, Carnot's legacy is a constant source of inspiration. We're constantly pushing the boundaries of energy systems, and we know he would have been proud of how far we've come.   Learn more about Carnot's brilliance: https://lnkd.in/dQF5Fgx6 #climatetech #netzero #netzero2050 #wasteheat #industrialdecarbonization #energytransition #cleanenergy
