It is always a pleasure to visit Cisco with my students. Over the years we developed a strong partnership engaging students in globally dispersed virtual collaborations and exposing them to the opportunities that digital technologies provide for online collaborations and with the skills they need to become successful leaders in #virtual and #hybrid #workplaces. It was an absolute pleasure to host last week at Lancaster University Management School my good friend and colleague Jens Roehrich, Professor at Bath University and incoming Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Operations & Production Management. Jens gave an insightful seminar regarding his longitudinal research on scaling up of digital health technologies to reduce inequalities in healthcare delivery between rural and urban areas. His work focuses on China, but it has broader implications for the processes underpinning health tech adoption and diffusion, and the management of associated challenges. Jens also presented to our OM Group his vision and plans for the future of the Journal. Exciting times lie ahead and, as ever, a few of us at Lancaster are committed to supporting IJOPM and our fab community more generally. #research #operations #supplychain #publishing

It has been 18 years since I started my PhD study with kevin glazebrook at department of Management Science at Lancaster University. Thanks to Kevin I had the chance to come across Multi-armed Bandit and Restless Bandit problems, which I have been working on since then. These reinforcement learning approaches have wide applications in decision-making problems under uncertainty, with strong performance in many cases. Kevin has been a great supervisor and mentor over the years. Thank you Kevin and wish you enjoy your retirement!

On October 30, 2024, the Department of Management Science held a very well attended event to celebrate the retirement of Distinguished Professor kevin glazebrook. Throughout his distinguished career Kevin made remarkable contributions to the OR discipline, the department, and the University at large. Kevin’s career has been marked by numerous achievements and distinctions, innovative and impactful research, and a continuous commitment to students’ and young researchers’ development. On behalf of the Department of Management Science, Prof Konstantinos Zografos, Prof. Dong Li and Chris Kirkbride thanked and congratulated Kevin for his remarkable achievements and exemplary service to the Department and the University. Finally! A long journey is about to end! It feels great to have successfully passed my viva yesterday! 🎉🥳 My PhD is about investigating OR techniques for conference scheduling problems. 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 #𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 #𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. But what specific digital tools do manufacturers need to have in place to enable this scaling, and how should they prepare for their effective adoption?   I had the pleasure of presenting our work on the 'Functional Requirements for Servitization' to our industrial partners at The Advanced Services Group #Partnership Roundtable at Konecranes in Duesseldorf.   The existing digital tools manufacturers have adopted for their product business often fail them for the complex functional requirements of servitization.   Manufacturers need tools that 🔸 bridge the service and product domains 🔸 help them grow from early service piloting to global service delivery 🔸 create the efficiencies and automation scaling requires   At this point, many manufacturers struggle to access and deploy the tools required, which limits the scaling opportunities.
