As markets embrace volatility this week, what signals can investors consider ahead of further policy announcements in early 2025? Our Global CIO Willem Sels discussed the causes and reaction to recent market volatility with Yahoo Finance's Madison Mills and Seana Smith earlier today. In the short term, uncertainty about the Fed rate path is likely to lead to further volatility in the bond markets, which may affect stocks. But looking into 2025, he stressed that the resilience of the US economy and prospects for deregulation and innovation offer opportunities in the US equity markets. Amid decelerating growth and easing inflation, both the Schweizerische Nationalbank (SNB) and European Central Bank (ECB) delivered consecutive rate cuts this week. While the SNB went against market expectations and announced a larger than expected 50bps cut, the ECB aligned to the market view and opted for a 25bps reduction. With inflation under control in Switzerland, and the ECB maintaining its data-driven approach, we expect further cuts from both central banks in 2025. US equities continue to be our favourite, considering the diverging outlook between the US and Eurozone economies and earnings prospects, along with Europe’s geopolitical uncertainties. In Europe, we prefer the UK stock market over the Eurozone's due to its undervalued valuations and defensive characteristics. Read the latest market update by our EMEA CIO Georgios Leontaris, CFA and Investment Strategist Anastasios ZACHARIOU, CFA on the potential impacts of both bank’s decisions in Europe: https://grp.hsbc/6048QgQrw #Investment #InvestmentInsights #RateCuts
