We are the University of York Students' Union.

About us

We are the University of York Students’ Union. We run independently from the University and are the go-to for all the fun stuff here at university. Whether you're into sports or are passionate about raising money for charity, want to join loads of societies or write for a student newspaper, we help you make university whatever you want it to be. We also offer a free advice and support service for when you need a bit of extra help and have loads of student jobs on offer so you can make a bit of extra cash alongside your studies. Campaigning on the issues that matter to you is also a huge part of our purpose. Your Sabbatical Officers and Part Time Officers (PTO’s for short!) are voted in every year by students, to fight for the issues that matter to you most.

  • We want to shout about all our sustainability work and initiatives. So, here are some 'did you knows' from us! Did you know that we have a Sustainability Action Plan? It centres around three headline objectives to ensure that we are supporting students on sustainability issues and putting in place the systems needed to improve the sustainability of our internal operations. Did you know that we have carbon footprint ratings on our menus? So when you’re deciding what to eat at a York SU venue, you can make an informed choice based on the carbon impact of your meal. Did you know that we have a Student Sustainability Guide? It’s a great place to find day-to-day sustainability tips and ways to improve student group sustainability. Did you know that the Sustainable Development Grant offers funding to both students and staff to address sustainability issues on campus? For further details and application information, head to the York SU Sustainability page > https://lnkd.in/eHjPDdkE

  • This Movember, University of York students have raised over £45,000 for the Movember Foundation! As teams and clubs, they've been growing facial hair, setting challenges, and shaving their heads, all to raise this huge sum of money. All of this hard work shot the University of York into the top ten for amount raised by universities across the country this November! Well done to everyone who took part - and keep an eye on the fundraising total, because it keeps growing! https://lnkd.in/dFj_XW_8

  • The Tree of Wishes is back for 2024! This is a Christmas tree like no other; instead of just baubles and tinsel adorning the tree (although definitely that too!), there are also gift tags. These gift tags have gifts written on them that have been requested by local charities. Here's how it works: 1. Take a tag from the tree 2. Buy the requested item 3. Wrap it up and attach the gift tag 4. Pop the gift under the tree. Both staff and students can join in! Gifts can be dropped off until Friday 13 December. They will then all be taken to the charities to be distributed to the people who need them. You can find the Trees at the York SU Helpdesk and the JB Morrell Library Foyer. Read more about the Tree of Wishes on the York SU website, including information on requested gifts and the charities we are working with > https://lnkd.in/evhcH9DZ

  • It's Trustees' Week! Acting as the Union's main governing body, our Trustee Board is made up of students, Sabbatical Officers and external members. As a group, they volunteer their time to help oversee York SU, making sure that we're well-run and always act in the best interests of our students. To our Trustees - thank you! Your time, commitment and expertise lets us thrive, and benefits our students every single day. Thank you for all the work that you do - and we can't wait to see how you help us develop next! 💛 Curious to know more? Find out all about how we're governed at: yorksu.org/about-us
