𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮 💧 Today we want to share the story behind Katherine Paleracio, our Project Manager at 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝗮 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮, who has built an inspiring career in water management over the last 15 years. A Civil Engineer by training, she graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and earned an MBA to expand her expertise. Her international career began with her first overseas project in Tanzania, which proved transformative, exposing her to diverse cultures and technical challenges. In 2016, she joined Miya Jamaica as an NRW Management Specialist, focusing on reducing water loss in Kingston and St. Andrew. 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀-𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 2020 𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝗮'𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, where she now leads a multidisciplinary team in implementing innovative water management solutions. Living and working in Jamaica has been both a 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 experience for her. She values the collaborative environment of her role, which brings together experts from various fields and nationalities, and also finds cultural connections between Jamaica and the Philippines, often saying, "𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲”. 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿: 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽. Having had the guidance of supportive mentors at Miya, 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀. Katherine Paleracio is more than just a leader; she is an inspiration to women in water management and far beyond. Her dedication, collaboration, and ability to adapt to new challenges showcase the power of perseverance and mentorship. Amazon Web Services (AWS) : 7 Years Ahead in Sustainability Goals At re:Invent 2024, Amazon Web Services (AWS) showcased its groundbreaking achievements in #sustainability, highlighting its strong commitment to renewable energy and water stewardship. AWS achieved 100% renewable energy consumption globally in 2023, seven years ahead of international targets set for 2030. The company also aims to reach #NetZero carbon emissions by 2040, going beyond neutrality to actively reduce emissions. Another key initiative is "Water Positive, where AWS pledges to return 7 billion liters of water to local communities by 2030, exceeding the amount it uses. AWS’s impact extends globally, including #Chile, where it saves 200 million liters of water annually. The company helps optimize irrigation systems in the Maipo River Basin, transitioning from inefficient flooding methods to smart drip systems.
