🚨🚨 - Today marks the first day of the final quarter for many tech vendors (not all). If you are not in sales, here is what you need to know.....🚨🚨 ⏰ Your sales counterpart is likely under a HUGE amount of pressure. Whether they are behind or ahead of their target, the world feels like it is on their shoulders. If they are behind, their job may be at risk. If they are ahead, they will want to drive home in style and earn money for their family and support their boss and their team. I remember one challenging year when I was asked to tell my customer that my job depended upon them signing a contract.... 🎯 They will be 150% focused on delivering sales revenue - if your need is a little further down the line in 2025, just note that they will still support you but their focus has to be on this quarter. 📄 Next year (1st January onwards for those companies with a fiscal year ending 31st Dec) is a world away. They may have a different territory and they will almost certainly have a different target. What this means? - They may be working with you, but they may not be - and in most cases, territories change. ⚖️ They will be balancing work and home life. While most folks focus on end-of-year celebrations, sales teams are focused on customers and opportunities. They will be being pulled in every direction, so give them some support. 💁 It will be a big help if you can be flexible and sympathetic to their situation. For example, don't demand super-quick RFP turnarounds, and try to arrange short calls rather than longer calls. 👪 The sales team consists of thousands of people —pre-sales, legal, marketing, demand gen, management, sales ops, etc. Although some of these do not have a 'quota' for delivering revenue, they are in the same boat and under huge pressure. 💵 If you have a potential requirement, go and talk to them. They will clearly want to hear about your proposition and will try to accommodate it if they can. 💼 Expect the good sales teams to knock on your door and see if they can incentivize you to bring your spending forward, particularly if you are due to spend in Q1 2025. ⏰ Don't believe that the best deals happen on the 31st of December—that's rarely the case. Every day in Q4 is an important day. When I was in sales, some of the best discounts were actually provided in October because there was a 100% chance the team needed that deal. It's not guaranteed to be the case on the 31st of December. Q4 - what every salesperson works so hard for - it's the exciting time of the year, but the first week of January can be sore in more ways than one.
