💡 Empowering Estates with AI-Driven Search, Collaboration, and Insights 💡 Our latest session, Empowering the Estate with AI-Driven Search, Collaboration, and Insights, featured valuable insights from Fiona Daly MSc, National Deputy Director of Estates for NHS England; Carl-Magnus von Behr, Co-founder of innex.ai; and Alex Pogmore, PhD researcher in digital twins and immersive environments at the University of Birmingham. Carl explored how AI and natural language models can drive compliance, productivity, and address staff burnout. Fiona Daly shared NHS England’s journey in integrating AI with digitalisation and energy data to enhance estate management. NHS England’s large library of technical guidance documents, used by clinicians, design teams, NHS boards, and regulators, is being analysed with AI to identify areas for improvement and support informed decision-making. She also highlighted their focus on generative AI and its growing role in shaping the future of healthcare estates. Alex Pogmore discussed the key consideration of duality – as more automation is added to systems, operators become less aware and have fewer opportunities to intervene, which poses challenges for maintaining control and safety. This shift requires a balance between automation and human oversight. David emphasised the importance of data architecture and data governance as foundations for resilient, efficient estates, ensuring secure, structured, and accessible data. Trevor introduced the emerging need for Master System Integrators to manage complex systems and Data Analysts to turn data into actionable insights. He also explored what defines a smart estate, available technologies, and cost-effective solutions for integrating digital estates and IT. Chris Hodgson, Director of Estates and Facilities at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Rachael Hanmer-Dwight, Head of Environmental Sustainability and Energy Services at the University of Liverpool, and Alan Beech, Sales Director for UK & Ireland, Clarke Energy shared their experiences with the complex challenges they face and offered potential pathways forward. Their insights highlight how collaboration across sectors is key to achieving sustainable and effective solutions. Then, Dave Jones MCIPS, Director of Estates, Facilities & Capital Development at the University Hospital Southampton NHS FT, alongside his research at the University of Southampton, addressed the urgent topic of The Impact of Infrastructure Failure: A Hidden Timebomb?
