buildingSMART Canada and the National Research Council Canada / Conseil national de recherches Canada explored successful international case studies and implementation of openBIM. In this talk, Claudia Cozzitorto shares what has motivated the implementation of openBIM and why is it integral to the advancements within the built asset industry. This research has provided insights into how these global practices can inform and influence the Canadian roadmap for digital transformation in the built environment, highlighting benefits which include enhanced collaboration, interoperability, and efficiency across diverse project stakeholders. To do so an important step is to clearly articulate the strategic importance of integrating openBIM within the Canadian context to foster innovation, streamline project delivery, meet evolving industry demands, and move towards a more connected and efficient future. https://bit.ly/3xJDrtd

Yesterday, our CEO, Arash Shahi had the opportunity to present at the "BIM Blueprint: Constructing Smarter, Building Better" event hosted by the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade (ONeconomy | ÉconomieON). Thanks to MEDJCT for organizing this great event focused on the future of digitization of the built environment and tailored for Ontario Municipalities and regulators, and agencies. Arash presented "BIM-GIS Applications: Foundation for Urban Digital Twins," highlighting the need for #datastandards as the foundation for #digitaltwins. Standards need to be in place to ensure that relevant data is captured and exchanged seamlessly throughout a project’s lifecycle. We actually think tools like #LandLogic can play a key part in shaping those standards to improve urban development and land policy decisions. Other presentations touched on the municipal business case for BIM, real-world use cases, and strategies for overcoming barriers to BIM implementation. 🌞 It's almost time to start my summer vacation, but I decided to make a short demo video about our new 'Proximity' and 'Calculate Properties for Connected Objects' tools in Simplebim 10.1. 🌟 🛠️ I find the 'Proximity' tool incredibly cool—it connects objects based on their geometric proximity, or in other words, how close they are to each other. Once connections are made, you can use the 'Calculate Properties for Connected Objects' tool to derive and copy data from one object to another. This opens up new possibilities for enriching model data and enhances collaboration between different disciplines. 🚧 Please note that the Proximity tool is currently in the beta phase. We invite you to give it a try and share your feedback with us. How do we prepare the next generation to shape smarter cities? Yesterday at BIM World MUNICH, I shared how digital twin technology is bridging the gap between education and real-world challenges. As cities get smarter, they’re transforming how we live, work, and connect. University campuses are becoming great testing grounds for these innovations, tackling challenges like energy use and space management. I introduced Bentley Systems Campus #DigitalTwins Initiative, which gives universities access to Bentley’s solutions to help students and researchers address real-world problems. Collaboration between industry and academia is key to equipping future professionals with the skills to shape our cities.
