  • Assessing our goals is part of how we hold ourselves accountable as a business. We’ve completed some big goals of ours this year and now we’re looking forward to the next. Not only has 2024 been a year for completing goals and getting closer to others, but also a year for making more. There are some improvements to our internal processes we’d like to make to help our Tribe, as well as a new charity contribution to take on. 2025 is a big year where we’re aiming to achieve over 100 points on our B Impact Assessment. We're also planning to create a green travel policy for the Tribe to cut down our impact when we're on the go. We’re excited to get working hard and pushing on with our business goals. #Impactreport #TGTribe #Bcorporation #environmentalconsultancy

  • Do you know how much the person sitting next to you earns? At Tyler Grange we do. Why should we make that the norm and what are the advantages of pay transparency? ✅Our culture is changing, and more people are beginning to talk honestly about money with family, friends and colleagues ✅Concerns about fairness of pay is one of the top reasons for employee unhappiness and ultimate departure ✅The gender and disability pay gap is closing too slowly, so a fresh approach is required for recruitment, retention and renumeration ✅Organisations that operate with secrecy and inconsistency will be left behind Perhaps it’s time you checked that you are being paid fairly for your role? I’d encourage everyone to at least start a conversation about the importance of pay transparency. We’ve done all of the hard work, so you don’t have to. • The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) guides development across England, we explore the implications to the services we provide following the revised version released late last week (12th December 2024). A few things to note in the framework: - The concept of Grey Belt land - A higher bar for releasing Green Belt land - Renewed support for onshore wind farms - A commitment to mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain - Arboricultural matters remain aligned with previous guidelines - Renewed recognition of the role of green infrastructure - Commitment to the Local Nature Recovery Strategy Framework The proposed reforms introduce encouraging updates and are making significant strides by weaving climate adaptation and nature recovery into strategic planning. The TG Tribe is geared up for these shifts in reform. Our experts are ready to go. Feeling lost about what these changes may mean for your project? • It’s part 2 of our Tribe charity roundup! Here’s what some more of the TG Tribe have been up to volunteering over the last 12 months… - Charlie Davies has been working with his local community to help lay hedges, clean road signs and litter pick. - Emma Baker has helped organise logistics and some media for the largest Scout camp in the UK - over the course of two weekends in June roughly 3,500 young people attended. - Next up there’s Vanessa Farnell who teaches British Sign Language and deaf awareness to a local tattoo parlour following the sudden hearing loss of one of the owners. Now they can communicate with hearing-impaired customers too! - Jonathan Berry has been using his Saturday mornings as a Parkrun marshall at his local park in Wilmslow. He has just reached his '25 volunteering milestone' and continues to cheer on the runners during the winter months. - Linda Grant has been taking part in the Blossom Trail bird box painting with her local community, helping provide lovely homes to the local wildlife. She also regularly helps tidy up the city with her litter picking group. We can’t wait to see what the next 12 months have in store for our volunteering TG Tribe! ⭐ Read our charity antics in full in our latest Impact Report: https://loom.ly/YovNn-s #Charitywork #Volunteering #TGTribe #Bcorp #4dayweek

  • It’s that time of year where we all start thinking a little big about New Year’s Resolutions, and we’ve got some ideas for some green resolutions for you and your business 💚 - Lower your greenhouse gas emissions by reducing your energy consumption. LED dimmable lightbulbs and timers for heating and lighting can all help cut consumption and costs! - Lessen your environmental impact by seeking sustainable suppliers who have eco-friendly practices. Whether you’re a business or at home, you can always try sourcing sustainable goods from contracted goods to toilet paper. - Reduce your carbon emissions by switching to renewable energy. Solar power or wind power, there are suppliers offering renewable sources that could be powering your offices and homes. - Reduce general waste and promote sustainable practice by implementing a zero-waste day once a week at home or in the office (or both!), maybe even push yourself to more than one day a week for a challenge! Without sounding too much like a certain Big Corp, every little helps when it comes to eco-friendliness. So whether you’re adopting something company-wide or just at home, your decisions could make a difference. What are your green resolutions for 2025? • Did you know that we’ve been forging a special partnership over the last year to better ourselves and our offering? Ecology is a broad subject area with TG being experts in terrestrial ecology. However, as a business we've recognised a skills gap when it comes to aquatic ecology advice and soils. And more broadly when it comes to habitat implementation on the ground. So we partnered up with FiveRivers, who are experts in aquatic ecology and river restoration, alongside wetland design / build and terrestrial habitat implementation. This partnership has meant we can offer reciprocal upskilling sessions for one another’s teams, and provide a more holistic service offering to our clients. Things really are better together. • Biodiversity is vital for a healthy ecosystem, but during the winter months it’s tough out there for wildlife. So here’s a few things you can do at work or at home to help look out for creatures big and small in the cold months… - Leave out a bird feeder for birds and squirrels to have easy access to food - Provide fresh, clean water in a bird bath or a dish in your garden - Break the ice on your pond (if safe to do so!) so species in the pond can thrive - Let your garden grow wild! Leaves, weeds, and dead plants give shelter to snuggle under If you’ve got any more good ideas on how to help wildlife in winter, let us know in the comments below! 👇 #winterwildlife #biodiversity #ecosystem #environmentalconsultancy

  • Since Christmas is a time for giving, let’s take a look at the volunteer work our Tribe has been doing over the last 12 months! ⭐ - First up is Ben Vause who donates his time to Barley Cop Woods in Lancashire undertaking woodland management tasks and maintenance so that the woods are safe and tidy for the local community and wildlife! - Jack Churchyard has participated in a number of fun runs to raise funds for good causes such as Chester Zoo. He also fixes and upcycles old tech equipment for fun to be repurposed - very sustainable! - Jess and Nathan volunteer at a social therapeutic horticulture garden helping people who have a range of physical and mental health needs who want a space to enjoy wildlife in London. They run a workshop for the public on the ecology of the garden to raise money. - Conor Louis Aynsley volunteers with local and national conservation groups! Each spring he conducts bird surveys and a red grouse monitoring programme in the Shropshire Hills. He’s also assisted in dolphin surveys for ORCA charity in the English Channel and North Sea. • Over the last 12 months we’ve been really active within the space created by mandating biodiversity net gain in land development. Schedule 7A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as inserted by Schedule 14 of the Environment Act 2021) currently mandates that each relevant development project delivers a measurable increase in biodiversity value of at least 10%. But at TG, we don’t just strive for the minimum requirement, we use our experience to provide advice that creates the right type of habitats in the right places! Our ecologists, arboricultural consultants, landscape planners and green / blue infrastructure specialists work closely together and with external consultants to ensure that creating habitat isn’t for the sake of creating habitat. We strive to make sure that our designs and recommendations reflect the needs of local wildlife, targeting species which are in local and national decline. Our aim is to make sure wildlife can thrive while allowing development projects to also deliver meaningful benefits to mental health and wellbeing.
