🚨ANNOUNCEMENT🚨 We are launching a crowdfunder to raise £50,000 to help us bring responsible cannabis regulation to the UK! 🌱 Cannabis reforms are accelerating across the globe. Just recently we shared the latest news from South Africa - now, it’s time for the UK to join in. For more than twenty years, Transform has been a trailblazer in global efforts to responsibly legalise and regulate cannabis for recreational adult use. We have worked with communities, activists, and academics, and acted as advisors to governments in Canada, Germany, Malta, Luxembourg, Uruguay and Mexico as they develop and implement their legalisation models. With reforms happening on every continent, we now have an opportunity to finally deliver legalised and regulated cannabis for recreational use here in the UK, and crucially, to get it right. This is why we are launching a crowdfunder to raise £50,000 to support our work. With your donation, we will be able to run a major UK’s campaign for cannabis reform. https://lnkd.in/ebq8DnNG With public opinion shifting towards support of cannabis regulation, we will take this issue to the people and policymakers. Building on over two decades of UK and global expertise, we will work directly with policy and lawmakers who can make this happen. On behalf of the whole Transform team, thank you for your support. It’s time! #LegaliseUKCannabis #DonateToRegulate #Cannabis #Regulation #UKGovernment https://lnkd.in/ebq8DnNG

'Can I have some lemon sherbert and some heroin please?' Drugs in sweet shops is one of the common misconceptions (or deliberate misrepresentations) around legally regulated drug markets and how they might look like in a post-prohibition world Our new 'Don't be a Harold' campaign shines a spotlight on how such damaging misconceptions allow the UK’s failing drug laws to persist Watch the 'Don't be a Harold - Support Drug Reform' video in full here: https://lnkd.in/eRQB5rNX Find out more about how to support drug reform here: https://lnkd.in/e3BuAmbt

As an independent, Bristol based think tank and charity, Transform Drug Policy Foundation advocates for drug laws that are founded on evidence and human rights whilst also promoting safer and healthier societies. Through a successful collaboration with the Professional Liaison Network (PLN), Transform were able to offer students hands-on experience in drug policy, ultimately preparing them for future roles in the field. The PLN connects students, academics and researchers from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law with external organisations to foster post-graduation success. Transform's CEO Alex Feis Bryce emphasised the pivotal role that the PLN played in providing students with practical insights beyond academic realms. Read more in our blog 👉 https://brnw.ch/21wHPJZ

🚨 NEW 🚨 Meet Harold! For the past six months we have been working on a new film. Today, we’re excited to be sharing it with you: “Don’t be a Harold” is a mockumentary that puts a spotlight on the unhelpful and damaging misconceptions that allow the UK’s failing drug laws to persist. Here we introduce you to Harold, the leader of his local Community Watch, whose views on drugs are rooted in moralising and ignorance just like the UK’s drug policy. Please watch and share. Support drug reform! A huge thank you to the Media Trust, Criminal Justice Alliance and the Crucible Foundation for supporting the creation of this film. This film wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible and dedicated production team who got behind our mission for just and effective drug laws: Michaela Lowe Daniel Agha-Rafei Green Light Pictures Daniel Harries Emma-Jane Fleming Kas Braganza Aaron Carter Hayden Rountree Karina Majewska Kevin Wolfgang Malbas Luke Halstead Adam Hurley Erica Korner Vix Ellis Elaine Lo Sophie Boston Vicente Iannone Mihai Meirosu Simon Swadling

I returned to the Brandenburg forum on drugs and development in /Lubbenau, Germany, this year for critical discussions amongst member states, UN agencies, and civil society on policy responses to the growing challenges around cocaine markets. I was pleased to be able to contribute Transform perspectives on regulation, as well as raising the often overlooked intersection between drug policy and the climate and biodiversity crises - specifically around cocaine production and the nexus of environmental crimes in the Amazon. It was also welcome to see the upcoming UNDP report on the development implications of emerging licit drug markets (that I've been working on for the past year) presented for the first time
#BBF2024 The 9th Brandenburg Forum on Drug and Development Policy has successfully concluded today! We would like to thank Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Federal Commissioner on Narcotic Drugs (Der Sucht- und Drogenbeauftragte der Bundesregierung), the Dutch Government (Ministerie van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport), International Drug Policy Consortium, the Transnational Institute, and all participants for their valuable input and active engagement. Over the past days, the forum provided a platform for meaningful discussions on aligning #DrugPolicies with human rights, public health, and sustainable development. With a focus on the challenges posed by the evolving #CocaineMarket, this year’s forum highlighted the importance of evidence-based solutions and international cooperation! #DrugPolicy #HumanRights #GlobalDevelopment #HarmReduction #PublicHealth #GIZ #GPDPD

Last Friday I met with Bristol’s High Sheriff Richard Pendlebury MBE DL, we talked for hours on drug policies and impact on communities. I have no doubt with the vast experience Richard holds, he will bring in some positive change to the City.
I spent a most enjoyable couple hours with Shoba Ram on Friday. Shoba has a vast experience working with those who have been impacted through substance abuse. We have also both spent years working within the criminal justice system in different capacities. Our key focus was how do we steer young people away from criminal activity. A huge factor in determining life choices is: who you 'hang out with' as Shoba put it. Get into the wrong crowd and things can go badly wrong quickly. Parents also play a key role in steering their young people. We also discussed generational unemployment and systemic poverty which also has a huge bearing. What is the answer? ...well it is multifaceted and complex and requires many different approaches That said, our conclusion was that all of us can make a difference, particularly through mentoring. I know many people mentor young people...are you one of them? I would be interested to know.

What are the potential economic benefits of the cannabis tax revenue in the UK? In the US it is estimated $20billion which is causing a huge ripple effect on funds reinvested into communities, education, public services, infrastructure and healthcare. Transform’s Cannabis Campaign is currently developing the economic report for UK legalisation with your generous funding. We already know that legalising adult use will expand the economy and reduce harms - report will be launched in Parliament in the coming months. Get behind the movement 💚 https://lnkd.in/ebq8DnNG
