  • Why Deposit return scheme matters? In the fight against plastic pollution, DRS play a crucial role. Here’s why implementing DRS is essential for keeping plastic bottles and cans out of landfills and our streets: 🚮Reduces waste: Encourages recycling, significantly reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. 🌳Cleaner environment: Helps keep our streets and natural landscapes free from litter. 🔄Resource efficiency: Facilitates the reuse of materials, conserving resources and reducing the need for new plastic production. 👥Community engagement: Encourages responsible behavior and community participation in recycling efforts. By supporting DRS, we can create a cleaner UK! #Sustainability #Recycling #DepositReturnScheme #Environment #PlasticPollution #Ireland

  • Do you know what mixed waste sorting really means? 💡 There are some misconceptions about what this process truly involves and its broader impact. So, let's break it down quickly: What mixed waste sorting (MWS) is 👇 ✅ Advanced process to recover plastics and other? valuables from mixed waste streams. ✅ Operational globally, including in Norway, Netherlands, Greece, Poland, and the U.S. ✅ Prevents plastics from ending up in landfills, incinerators, or as litter. ✅ Reduces greenhouse gas emissions by diverting plastics from incineration to recycling. ✅ Supplies high-quality recyclate essential for advanced recycling technologies. ✅ Contributes towards meeting ambitious recycling targets set by regulations like those in the EU. What mixed waste sorting (MWS) isn’t 👇 ❌ Replacement for source separation - complements it by capturing additional materials. ❌ One-size-fits-all solution - requires customization to regional waste management practices. ❌ Sole answer to waste management challenges - part of a broader strategy including improved product design. ❌ Without need for infrastructure optimization – it requires innovative solutions for sorting various types of waste. 💡 Interested in learning more about mixed waste sorting? 👉https://lnkd.in/dG_vM-Fa #UNPLasticsTreaty #CircularEconomy #MixedWasteSorting

  • ♻️ Spain is moving closer to implementing a deposit return system (DRS) Last week, the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition published a report revealing that the current collection rate for single-use PET bottles stands at 41.3%. This is far below the targets mandated by the Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD), which require a 77% collection rate by 2025 and 90% by 2029. To address this gap, Spain has announced plans to implement a deposit return system (DRS) for PET bottles, cans, and beverage cartons within the next two years, aiming to significantly improve collection and recycling rates for these materials.   🌍 Why it matters: The introduction of a DRS is a significant step towards reducing waste, improving collection and recycling rates, and fostering a circular economy. It highlights Spain’s growing commitment to meeting EU environmental goals.   Source: https://lnkd.in/dEcTwBta    #SpainRecycles #DepositReturnSystem #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #SingleUsePlasticsDirective #DRSUpdate

  • It's #WorldSustainableTransportDay so we're zooming in on the work being done to eliminate fossil-based vehicles from our service fleets! ⚡   The transport sector is responsible for about a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions, and 91% of the energy used in motorized transport on land, sea and air is derived from fossil fuels. 😅   World Sustainable Transport Day reminds us that the road to a better future depends on cleaner and greener transportation systems.   Our plan for reducing the negative impacts of our operations in line with the targets set out by the #ParisAgreement was recently approved, and exchanging fossil-based transport for electrically-powered alternatives is a key lever to our success.   How are your climate commitments changing the way you do things?   Let us know in the comments! 👇   #TOMRA #Sustainability #NetZero

  • 🌍 TOMRA Collection is proud to support Keep Scotland Beautiful in their mission to promote recycling and sustainability! 🌿 Since 4 November, students at University of Strathclyde have had access to TOMRA T70 Dual reverse vending machines, making it easier than ever to recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans on-the-go. For each drink container recycled, students can donate 20p to either Homeless Project Scotland or Keep Scotland Beautiful. No Lectures: Sort It, Recycle It is a collaboration campaign between environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful, Strathclyde University, and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP). The objective of the campaign is to test through qualitative and quantitative research student responses to recycling messaging and selective pressures implemented. Learn more about the campaign here: https://lnkd.in/d8Ma6eym This initiative not only encourages responsible recycling habits but also supports important local charities. • From Buckingham Palace to global change 🌍 This week, TOMRA CEO Tove Andersen joined King Charles and leaders from around the world at the International Sustainability Reception at Buckingham Palace, focusing on a defining issue of our time: tackling plastic pollution. With the 5th round of negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty (INC-5) just weeks away, this high-profile event brought together leaders from government, industry, and environmental organizations. The goal? To strengthen collective commitment and lay the groundwork for meaningful, coordinated action on plastic waste. The Global Plastics Treaty aims to address plastic pollution from its source to its impact on ecosystems and communities worldwide. As TOMRA prepares for INC-5, we remain committed to supporting the goals of the negotiations, building on the strong foundation we have established during previous INCs to inform and advocate for meaningful action on plastic pollution.
