What is life? This is absolutely spot on. The compounding of fees over multiple years creates a massive drag on growth. It’s exactly what Katherine Waller and I see time and time again in the analysis we carry out for prospective clients. But for many, the real issue isn’t the fee - it’s the lack of transparency. Unclear charges create confusion, erode trust, and often lie at the heart of the challenges we see. OMG....HALF of your investment wiped out! These little percentage points really add up. When I saw this I had a quick look at what St James Place are charging. 📍 5% charge on the initial investment 📍 1.5% average ongoing costs that include fund fees (some of the highest out there) and ongoing management costs. And several funds in the doghouse. Don't even get me started on the exit fee... Making the right choice from the outset is crucial. At Investing Insiders we are continuing to perform rigorous research into fees (including all those hidden fees) and performance. Some of the platforms will charge 1.5% in FX fees alone.

As we wrote in the FT Adviser yesterday, our clients are facing on average a 50% increase in their #InheritanceTax exposure since the budget. So how are we advising families to manage this? For starters, there is no limit in the UK on how much you can gift during your lifetime, and there’s never been a more sensible time to create a robust gifting strategy. For assets that are being gifted - or for those assets due to remain in the estate into old age - insurance still represents the best value strategy: It means beneficiaries can pay the bill easily, and it quickens the granting of probate.
