MedTech Search @ Cruxx - Host of The Surgibots Podcast - 🎙

🇫🇷 Searching for a VP of R&D for a surgical robotics startup based in France, need to be a French and English speaker. The sector the company is chasing currently has no surgical robotics solution on the market, and there are a number of players chasing it, with an apetite from VC to invest in the area. We need someone who is a real people leader, the kind who will lead from the front and motivate and drive a team to their objectives. With ambitious growth plans, you'll be taking the R&D team from its current size to 30+ by 2026, creating the structure, processes, and culture needed to succeed. The company is financially stable and has exciting plans to expand its robotic platform, adding new features to make a real impact in surgical innovation. The salary is at a very nice level, with significant stock options and a very competent leadership team. We need someone from a surgical robotics, software driven medical device, or aerospace industry who has led teams of 10+ and has strong knowledge on software. If you want to chat, send me a dm and we'll set up some time asap! #medtech #surgicalrobotics #jobopportunity

Paul Galluzzo is someone every technical leader should have on speed dial. TTP plc have been working in medical technology and surgical robotics for a number of years, however, they didn't start out advising medtech companies until a lightbulb moment. TTP’s entry into medtech revolved around curiosity, serendipity, and an engineer’s knack for rethinking existing technology. The setting was a typical TTP brainstorming session, where the team was immersed in product development for inkjet printing technology. They were working on piezoelectric print heads devices that use small electrical pulses to push ink through microscopic nozzles. At first glance, it was a far cry from anything medical. 💡 Then came a moment of inspiration. 💡 Paul recalls, “One day, literally, the CEO of TTP and I were talking. We’d each convinced ourselves that if you take a whole bunch of piezos on an inkjet print head, turn it upside down, and stick it in water, it becomes an ultrasound imaging device.” At its heart, it was a “What if?” question, born from technical curiosity. Piezoelectric materials respond to electrical signals by generating sound waves, which is the basic principle behind ultrasound imaging. The idea to submerge the print head in water wasn’t a huge leap it was a small step that no one had taken before. So, they tried it. With their expertise in piezoelectric systems and a knack for prototyping, they quickly rigged up a test. The result? They generated an ultrasound image. It wasn’t perfect, but it was groundbreaking. “We thought, gosh, so now we’re in ultrasound imaging.” Check this conversation out and much more on the latest episode of The Surgibots Podcast 🎙️ Watch/Listen, on Youtube, Spotify and Apple. #surgicalrobotics #medtech #medicalimaging

I’m not usually one to share my Spotify Wrapped. My partner already mocks my music taste as "indie rubbish," but I couldn’t not sharing The Surgibots Podcast wrapped for 2024. Especially with an audience growth of 82%! Congrats to Nick Damiano, CEO and Co-Founder of Andromeda Surgical. Your episode, "The Tesla of Surgical Robotics," was the most downloaded episode of the year. It was a fascinating conversation about developing autonomous surgical robots. To all the guests in 2024, thank you for sharing your stories. It’s a privilege to host conversations that spark curiosity and innovation in surgical robotics and the wider medtech community. If you missed any of 2024's episodes, they are all on Spotify, Apple, and the last 10 are now on youtube. The latest ep with Paul Galluzzo of TTP plc is not one to miss. Let me know in the comments, which conversation has been your favorite and why? #surgicalrobotics #medtech #podcast

Stop what you are doing and listen to the latest episode of The Surgibots Podcast. Paul Galluzzo may not be in the spotlight often, but he’s one of the most engaging, insightful guests I’ve ever hosted. "50 years from now, everything we’re discussing will seem quaint, AI and robotics will transform the field in ways we can’t imagine." "Intuitive has the financial clout to tell hospitals, ‘We’ll place this robot for whatever cost suits you, just give us the downstream revenues.’ It’s a juggernaut." "Orthopedic companies are under pressure, but the demand is there and pickleball injuries are driving up surgeries!" "AI making intelligent diagnostics today and driving surgical robots tomorrow it’s coming." "Critical structure identification is huge imagine a display telling you you’re too close to a nerve or that a tumor margin isn’t clear." "No, your baby’s ugly, it’s not a good robot. I wish I could name names... but they’re going up against Intuitive with systems that are just not going to win." This isn’t just a podcast episode from our sponsors TTP plc, it’s a guide on how to develop surgical robots and avoid critical mistakes along the way. If you hear this and want to connect with Paul and I bet there are a number that do, send me a DM and I’ll make it happen. I hope you enjoy this episode! #surgicalrobotics #medtech #surgery

🤖 Huge anouncement as Distalmotion treat the first US patients with the Dexter system. The Dexter Surgical Robot has successfully treated the first U.S. patients in an outpatient setting. Two adult inguinal hernia repairs were completed with Dexter on November 26, 2024. “With over 90 percent of inguinal hernia repairs in the U.S. performed in outpatient and ambulatory surgical settings, there is a need for robotic solutions tailored to these environments” commented Greg Roche, Distalmotion’s CEO. “We are thrilled to demonstrate how Dexter can overcome the traditional barriers of cost, space, and workflow disruption in the outpatient setting, while delivering robotic excellence that elevates surgeon and patient care.” Greg recently joined me on The Surgibots Podcast to discuss US launch and where Distalmotion is heading into 2025 and beyond 🚀 Links in comments. Getting to the stage of actually commercialising a surgical robot is a monumetal achievement. There is a graveyard of companies who have developed amazing technology, that haven't made it, or that have got to market and dropped the ball. Now Distalmotion is there in the US after gaining FDA clearance for the Dexter system. Myself & Greg Roche recorded this session of The Surgibots Podcast prior to the anouncement, but for as long as I have known him, Greg has kept the customer at the heart of the commercial roll out. When it comes to go-to-market, the customer must feel like the most important person in the world. Building out the infrastructure of clinical, training, service, logistics etc is so important to deliver a world class experience, so that when inevitably things do go wrong you are there to support. As Greg shared "The one thing we know is that we want to delight every customer" Check out this episode and more by searching for "the surgibots podcast" on Youtube, Spotify or Apple. #surgicalrobotics #fda #medtech #commercialisation.

🎙️ Latest Episode of The Sugribots Podcast now live. 🎙️ This one is with none other than Greg Roche, CEO of Distalmotion. In this episode, we explore how Distalmotion are empowering surgeons and facilities to tailor robotic systems for their specific needs. Some highlights; 🔹 ‘Allowing customers to master their own verticals is key.’ Dexter's open-platform gives surgeons the flexibility to select tools and techniques that best suit their procedures, whether it’s visualisation, energy devices, or advanced imaging. 🔹 ‘Optionality drives both innovation and financial accessibility.’ Dexter’s smaller form factor and affordability open the door for more outpatient settings, like ASCs, to adopt robotic systems. Creating access, and driving higher adoption in underserved regions. 🔹 ‘Robotics should integrate into the surgeon's workflow—not disrupt it.’ Unlike traditional systems that require surgeons to adapt, Dexter is designed to fit seamlessly into existing workflows. As well as; - The challenge of bringing high-volume, low-acuity surgeries into robotic platforms. - How ASC-focused solutions are reshaping patient care and physician satisfaction. - What it takes to build a scalable medtech business that serves diverse global markets. Don’t Believe the Hype - We need more clinical evidence! “At the end of the day, it’s about the patient. Everything else, profit, fame, comes second.” Live now is one of my favorite conversations since starting the Surgibots Podcast. The latest episode has none other than Dr. Mark Slack, Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of CMR Surgical. The highlights; - The founding story behind CMR Surgical, and from the early days meeting in a Church to the global player today. - Why only 2-4% of global surgeries use robots, despite their theoretical advantages. - How cost, training, and access barriers need to be addressed to truly democratise surgery. - The power of VR and telemetry in transforming surgeon training—making practice as precise and affordable as possible. - The overhype surrounding AI: “It’s not about pressing a button and letting the robot take over. That’s not happening in our lifetime.” - Mark believes surgical robotics has the potential to revolutionise healthcare, but only if we stay grounded. As he says, “Let’s never forget we’re here for the patient. Lose that, and we lose our humanity.” This episode is packed with stories, hard truths, and a vision for what’s possible when innovation is done right. 🎙️ Listen and watch via the links in the comments. 🎙️ #surgicalrobotics #Medtech #Innovation #clinicalevidence
