The Birth Partner Project

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid Women's Network event, which was my first networking experience outside the realm of sustainability. Although it can be sometimes intimidating for first-timers, I quickly I felt comfortable and had great conversations with some lovely people and can't wait for another! The speakers offered valuable insights, particularly from Rosie Pretorius and Andries Pretorius, who encouraged us to reflect on our daily routines for improved well-being (I've had a pint of water every morning since!). Areatha Comanescu from The Birth Partner Project also highlighted the impactful work of her charity - it was truly an inspiring talk. Thank you Penny Lock for the invite and your continuous advice on all things dogs! 😆

Katie Russell, Elen Mair Hawkley and I have had a truly inspirational morning at Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid event ‘ Mental Health: are we hitting the target but missing the mark?’   A fantastic talk from Andries Pretorius and Rosie Pretorius from @OneStopNorth on the importance of putting systems in place for your own mental wellbeing.  Setting time aside to decompress, effectively communicating your needs and the importance of having a good support system in place. It’s all about taking small steps (1% a day). Tomorrow I will be starting my day with a glass of water and a morning walk! This talk was followed by a moving presentation from the The Birth Partner Project on the incredible work that the charity does. “No woman should have to go through pregnancy and birth on her own, yet many women seeking sanctuary face this prospect.” The Birth Partner Project has helped over 100 women and families.   #MaternitySafety for all women is something I feel really strongly about and it was great to hear how the charity volunteers advocate for and support pregnant women from the refugee and asylum-seeking community to ensure their voices are heard. It was so lovely to be in a room full of like minded women and I can't wait for the next event. Hugh James #MentalHealth

Last night we celebrated the 25th birthday of Community Foundation Wales at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and it was a truly unforgettable evening. The event showcased the incredible impact we've made together over the last 25 years and looked ahead to how philanthropy can continue to strengthen communities across Wales. We were moved by the stories of The Birth Partner Project, which supports refugee and asylum seeker women, and inspired by the talented students of the college who performed beautiful operatic and musical theatre pieces. A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported us, particularly our generous sponsors RBC Brewin Dolphin.
