  • A special Letters to Heaven post box has been installed at the Stockton-on-Tees Crematorium to allow grieving relatives to send letters to loved ones who are no longer with us. Bereaved family and friends can post cards, letters and other messages into the white and gold memorial post box, and every letter put into the post box will be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality. Cllr Clare Besford, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment & Transport, said: “We all handle grief in our own way and for some the act of writing and posting a letter to a departed loved one will bring comfort. “These Letters to Heaven post boxes help us to remember our loved ones in a special way. They give an opportunity for people to post a birthday card, Christmas card, or the last card or letter that they may not have had the chance to send.” The scheme has been rolled out across the UK after a nine-year-old girl from Nottinghamshire originally came up with the idea for the post boxes, telling her mum she wanted to write to her grandparents who had passed away. The post box is not owned or serviced by Royal Mail, so no address or stamp is needed on any letters.

  • ***TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PRESTON PARK MUSEUM FROM MONDAY 30 DECEMBER*** As part of the next phase of work for improvements to Preston Park Museum ahead of the internal fit out of the new extension, the museum will be temporarily closed from Monday 30 December 2024 to Friday 31 January 2025. This is for remodelling work to take place in the existing reception and retail area. The park will remain open as normal. Councillor Steve Nelson, Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: “Once complete the major improvements to Preston Park will bring significant benefits to the Borough and the Council has worked hard to minimise the impact of the works to visitors, but some level of disruption is always likely on projects of this significant scale. “We have chosen this time of year to work on the reception and retail areas as it’s likely to have the minimum impact on visitors. We will continue to keep everyone updated regularly on the museum extension’s progress.” The museum is set to reopen on Saturday 1 February 2025, with the extension set to be complete later in the year.

  • 👋 Say hello to Carl (or Santa!) 🤝 Carl Tyler is the Chair of Low Hartburn Residents Association (LHRA). 🙌 He works hard to unite his local community, supporting others while trying to bring a smile to people’s faces, through the regular social events and quizzes he organises. 🎁 And this Christmas, you may have spotted him out in his sleigh with other members of the LHRA delivering selection boxes for children in the area, including patients at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. ✅ Throughout the year, Carl has also done Easter egg hunts and Halloween activities in addition to his regular litter picking rounds. Thank you for all you do! #proudtocare #strongertogether #communities #stocktonontees
