  • The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's latest plan targets 45-47GW of solar capacity by 2030, but the industry is already pushing boundaries. With current capacity expected to hit 20GW by year-end (significantly higher than official estimates), and over 180,000 new installations this year alone, we're witnessing unprecedented growth. "The solar industry persistently smashes through expectations of growth, in the UK and worldwide, and I have no doubt that it will continue to do so in the coming years"– Chris Hewett, Chief Executive of Solar Energy UK. Exciting developments ahead: ⚡ Major grid connection reforms 🅿️ New support for solar canopies over carparks 🌱 Enhanced focus on nature-positive infrastructure 🏠 Increased emphasis on household energy independence 🔍 Dive deeper into the numbers and upcoming initiatives. 👇 Read the full release. #SolarEnergy #CleanPower #RenewableEnergy #NetZero #UKEnergy

  • The Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) has published its Supply Chain Traceability Standard, a groundbreaking step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in solar PV supply chains. This standard is a collaborative effort, designed to address global challenges while supporting the ethical, sustainable growth of solar energy. It offers a framework to trace materials throughout the PV value chain, bolstering confidence among stakeholders, consumers, and policymakers. By aligning with this standard, companies can demonstrate their commitment to responsible sourcing and ethical practices, ensuring the solar energy transition is as clean as the energy it generates. "Why are you limiting solar?" Bill Esterson MP, Chair of the Energy Security & Net Zero Select Committee, challenged National Energy Security Office (NESO) on their solar energy targets during Wednesday's evidence session. The discussion revealed NESO's CP30 plan targets 47.4 GW of solar generation by 2030 - approximately 15-20% lower than the UK's projected potential of 59.6 GW. While NESO maintains this represents a significant increase and cites extensive stakeholder engagement and modelling to support their target, questions remain about maximising one of our cheapest forms of energy generation alongside onshore wind. The exchange highlighted the importance of ambitious yet achievable targets as we transition to net zero, particularly for proven, cost-effective technologies like solar that are crucial to our future energy system. #SolarPower

Solar has a key role to play in achieving Government's clean power mission, and we're calling for a target of up to 60GW in the Clean Power Action Plan. This week's Parliamentary evidence session on clean power by 2030 highlighted a concerning gap between ambition and action. While NESO's CP30 plan proposes 47.4GW of solar capacity, industry analysis suggests we could achieve up to 60GW by 2030 - representing a missed opportunity of over 12GW of one of our cheapest forms of generation. 👉 You can access our briefing here: https://lnkd.in/e2z9-Eh2
