About us
Shine Cancer Support is the only registered charity in the UK that is exclusively focused on supporting people in their 20s, 30s and 40s with cancer. We support anyone in our age group, with any type of cancer. Our vision is that every adult in the UK diagnosed with cancer in their 20s, 30s or 40s can access the help and support that they need in a way that suits their lifestyle, and that they are a part of a confident, supportive and empowered community of young adults living with cancer. Our mission is to provide tailored information and peer support for anyone in their 20s, 30s or 40s diagnosed with any cancer. We do this through a range of activities including lunches and drinks evenings, beach walks, multi-day getaways, workshops, online networking, and mentoring.

Since starting Shine Cancer Support we've seen an increasing need for our services, with rates of cancer in UK adults aged 25 to 49 increasing by 24% over the last 30 years. We've often felt frustrated that this growing group of cancer patients is invisible within the healthcare system and to health policy makers. You can help us change that with this survey: https://lnkd.in/emFax23b We want to build a picture of the experiences and challenges faced by adults aged 20 to 49 who have had a cancer diagnosis. If you're in your 20s, 30s or 40s and have had a cancer diagnosis please spare 10 minutes to fill it in. You can answer this survey whether you're newly diagnosed, in remission, or living with advanced or incurable cancer (there's also a chance to win one of three £25 Amazon gift cards....).

We've been so proud to partner Irwin Mitchell over the last year and are delighted to renew it! They've not only supported many of our in-person events but have also helped members of the Shine community on tricky issues like work and access to their medical records.
A pleasure to have attended the Shine Cancer Support conference. A day spent with great speakers, inspiring audience, therapy dogs and wonderful colleagues Elaine Farr Elise Burvill. Truly in awe of this marvellous charity.

It's hard to put into words what an amazing weekend we had at Shine Connect (only taken me almost a week to recover!). We had it all: great speakers & workshops, a live podcast recording, friendship bracelets, bubble blowing, therapy dogs, lots of laughs, good quality information, and a keynote by Nazanin Derakhshan on rebuilding cognitive function after #cancer - all rounded off by a few friendly drinks. HUGE thanks to TTA Ltd (The Turner Agency) for being the best events managers ever; Irwin Mitchell and Parexel for their sponsorship; Wallacespace for providing a fab venue; RADIO FACILITIES LTD for the audio help; Branding Science Group for support with our survey - and all of our speakers and attendees.

Time to announce the total raised during this year's Step Up For Shine...🤗👟🧡 Across the 30 days of September, 30 participants pushed themselves to complete their chosen missions to raise funds and awareness for young adults facing cancer and, of course, they absolutely smashed it! We're so pleased to announce that Step Up For Shine 2024 has raised an incredible amount of £11,000! We can't thank everyone who took part enough - these funds will make the world of difference to the work we do and the number of people across the UK that we're able to reach. We hope you'll join us in saying a huge well done to everyone involved! If your workplace is interested in taking part next year, drop us an email at fundraising@shinecancersupport.org and we can give you more information. Here's to next year - #StepUpForShine over and out! 🐕🦺🐈⬛🐢🦫

Shine Cancer Support reposted this
On paper it seemed easy. Well do-able. 20,000 reps across 4 reasonably fit people. It was harder than I thought. But the upside was that it was over in 90 mins! What a great team effort for Shine Cancer Support at Battle Cancer this weekend. Over £3k raised - there's still time to donate! 😀 Link below for donations!

Please read! We were lucky enough to contribute to this work led by Harriet Forbes at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine which demonstrates the long-term and significant impact that cancer can have on mental health. This is all the more important for younger adults with cancer who have longer to live post-diagnosis/treatment. https://lnkd.in/eAweeQPu
