We live in a society that hates the disabled, and punishes the unwell. One that says it cares about mental health, as long as people are working.
It’s madness to suggest that a hospital, a place meant for healing, should become a factory for productivity. The government’s plan to send work coaches into mental health wards isn’t just stupid, it’s callous.
We’ve become obsessed with work, to the point where the value of a human life is measured solely by output. If you’re not contributing to the economy, let’s get you there, even if it kills you—that’s the message here.
Forcing CV prep and interview tips on someone recovering from serious mental health challenges, in the very space where they’re meant to feel safe, is wild. This isn’t about care; it’s about cutting costs. And let’s be clear, the assumption behind this push is deeply flawed—that work will fix everything.
Yeah, employment can be empowering when you’re ready for it, but not when you’re barely holding on.
The truth is, mentally unwell people challenge society because they aren’t part of the productivity machine. And rather than giving them time and space to recover with dignity, we’re now talking about pushing them back into the workforce before they can even breathe.
What does that say about our priorities?
We need to refocus on compassionate care, not economic quotas. This policy won’t help people heal—it will set them back.
