By focusing on social responsibility, inclusivity and mental wellbeing, we create spaces that go beyond aesthetics to support the needs of diverse communities. Our mission is to shape environments that inspire connection, foster productivity and enhance quality of life. From workplaces to hospitality spaces, we work closely with our clients to deliver bespoke designs that not only elevate each project but also contribute meaningfully to society. At SCENE, we reject the traditional “house style” in favour of designs that are as unique as the communities they serve. Our team draws inspiration from a broad spectrum of styles and sources from an inclusive network of makers, manufacturers and artists, from renowned names to emerging talents. Our full-service design process covers every stage—from concept and development to sourcing, project management, and installation. We’re committed to creating spaces where purpose meets innovation and design creates real social impact.

Tiny Homes: Big Ideas for Sustainable Design In a world where space is increasingly at a premium, the idea of tiny homes offers a radical solution—especially in rapidly urbanising countries like India. Tiny homes are about more than just reducing square footage—they’re about making the most of every inch and creating a sustainable, purposeful living experience. By embracing modular, flexible design, these spaces offer a glimpse of what the future could look like: functional, minimalist and connected to the community. But here's the question: Why should small-scale design only be reserved for homes? At SCENE, we believe the same principles—efficiency, adaptability and sustainability—should be applied to all spaces, from commercial offices to public hubs. Good design is about doing more with less. It’s about creating spaces that are efficient, beautiful and built to last. Tiny homes are leading the way and it’s time we bring that thinking to larger-scale projects. Smaller, smarter, sustainable design isn’t just for tiny homes—it’s for all spaces that need to evolve. #purposedrivendesign #designscene #tinyhomes #sustainabledesign #smarterdesign #minimalistdesign #designthinking #futureofdesign

  • The Real Cost of Poor Design. We often think about design in terms of cost—materials, time, labour. But here’s the real question: What does it cost when design goes wrong? Poorly designed spaces aren’t just inconvenient—they can have serious consequences. Offices that kill productivity. Hospitals that increase stress. Schools that fail to inspire learning. At SCENE, we believe in design as an investment. When you create spaces that work, the return isn’t just aesthetic—it’s measurable. Improved mental health, increased collaboration, higher productivity. The real cost of design isn’t in the budget—it’s in the impact it leaves behind. Bad design is expensive. Good design is priceless. #designscene #designmatters #purposedrivendesign #costofpoordesign #investindesign #impactfuldesign #designthinking #designforimpact #betterspaces #functionaldesign #designforpeople #interiordesign #commercialinteriors #productivitythroughdesign #spacesforchange

  • Redesigning Housing: Where Innovation Meets Social Change. The recent winner of the 2024 RIBA International Prize, a radical social housing project in Barcelona, challenges everything we know about residential design. This project isn’t just about shelter—it’s about creating spaces that foster connection, adaptability and community. By using modular design, this project reimagines how we think about living together, prioritising flexibility and social interaction over outdated, isolating layouts. This is the future of housing: sustainable, adaptable and inclusive. At SCENE, we’re inspired by this vision. We believe that design should do more than just meet needs—it should transform lives, create stronger communities and push boundaries. This is the kind of thinking we need to address today’s housing challenges. What if we applied this bold, transformative approach to every design challenge we face? Design doesn’t just fill space—it creates spaces that shape lives. #designscene #purposedrivendesign #socialhousing #innovativehousing #designforchange #inclusivehousing #sustainabledesign #communitydesign #housingforall #architectureforchange #urbaninnovation #futureofhousing

  • Last week, we attended the Mix North Awards, where SCENE was honoured to be shortlisted for Workspace Project of the Year. While we didn’t take home the award this time, being recognised among so many exceptional projects and designers is a privilege we’re incredibly proud of. It’s always inspiring to celebrate the creativity and innovation shaping the commercial interiors industry. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees—it was a fantastic evening and we’re leaving even more motivated to keep raising the bar in design. #mixawardsnorth

  • The Future of Co-Living Spaces As we see more people working remotely and seeking connection over ownership, co-living spaces are becoming the answer to modern living challenges. But designing these spaces isn’t as simple as putting a few people under one roof—it’s about creating environments where individuality and community can coexist. At SCENE, we see the potential for co-living to transform urban environments, offering affordable housing, fostering a strong sense of community, and encouraging sustainable living. Our goal is to design co-living spaces that are more than just places to sleep—they’re spaces that nurture relationships, creativity and growth. The future of urban living starts with community. • The Role of Design in Addressing Mental Health Design is often seen as a luxury but what if it could be the solution to one of society's most pressing issues? Mental health in the workplace, in schools and in public spaces is a growing concern. So why isn’t design playing a larger role in providing solutions? Spaces can be more than just rooms we occupy—they can shape our emotional and psychological well-being. In the mental health sector, we’ve learned that spaces must be more than just functional—they should be healing. The design of a space can influence mental states, encourage positive interactions and support recovery. The Ohana Mental Health Clinic in Monterey, California, exemplifies the transformative potential of architecture in mental health care. By embracing open spaces, natural light and thoughtful layout, the clinic creates an environment that does more than house patients—it actively supports their recovery. In fact, design is a core part of the healing process. At SCENE, we’re looking beyond the traditional approach of sterile, impersonal environments. We’re focusing on creating spaces that promote well-being, support human connection and encourage healing. Through collaborative design, we incorporate feedback from users to create spaces that truly meet their needs, rather than imposing pre-designed solutions. Design is not just about what you see—it’s about how you feel. And when it comes to mental health, the right space can make all the difference. #purposedrivendesign #designscene #mentalhealthdesign #wellbeingdesign #healingspaces #designforwellbeing #biophilicdesign #interiordesignforhealth #mindfulspaces #therapeuticdesign #designformentalhealth #interiorarchitecture #spacesforhealing #wellnessinteriors #humanfocuseddesign #interiorstylingforwellbeing

Head of Design @ Bathroom Brands Group | Creative Direction

En route to the Material Source Studio in Glasgow. Reflecting on last week’s event in Manchester, where I had the privilege of hosting my first panel talk and and design moodboard competition, it was a truly rewarding experience. As someone who deeply believes creativity thrives in community, I’ve always valued opportunities to connect with professionals from adjacent disciplines like architecture and interior design. Yet, in my experience as an industrial designer, cross-disciplinary activities like these don’t happen often enough. Typically, industrial designers work closely with engineers, interior designers with architects, and graphic designers with artists. But when we break out of those silos and invite creative minds from different backgrounds to collaborate, it’s always a fruitful exercise. My key takeaway from this event? We need more of these interdisciplinary opportunities—not just to spark fresh ideas but to gain a broader perspective of the design process as a whole. Shoutout to all who took part and to the winners - Courteney Kiely - SCENE, Ragda Elhag & Bonnie Cook - MLA —- Crosswater UK part of the Bathroom Brands Group

  • Temporary, Sustainable and Circular Architecture: Rethinking Expos SEMESTER Studio’s Temporary Storage Garden for the Camerich Pavilion at the 2023 China International Furniture Fair offers an innovative approach to sustainability in architecture. This installation demonstrates a commitment to zero waste and material reuse, with every component carefully selected to be returned to its original purpose after the event. The pavilion's central garden, designed as a tranquil oasis amid the bustling expo, showcases how circular design practices can be seamlessly integrated into temporary structures. Ash timber is stacked to create the frame without screws, fabric is draped to avoid waste and even plants are re-purposed for replanting. In a world where sustainability is more important than ever, this project challenges traditional notions of temporary structures. Rather than creating something that is discarded, SEMESTER shows how architecture can embody the principles of reuse, minimalism and low-tech solutions while maintaining beauty and functionality. This is a timely reminder that sustainability is not just about using new materials but about reimagining how we use the ones already available. It’s a clear message to designers: sustainability can be both innovative and practical, elevating temporary installations into something with lasting value. #purposedrivendesign #designscene #sustainability #circulardesign #architecture #designinnovation #interiordesign #greendesign
