Last week, members of Westminster’s Scottish Affairs Committee visited Mowi Scotland’s Loch Erisort #salmon farm as part of a fact-finding visit to the #WesternIsles. Various myths and misconceptions that are pushed by anti-salmon farming activists were tackled by the farm staff. 🐟 A week prior to the visit, the committee held a one-off session exploring the #economic benefits of the #Scottish salmon sector. The visit gave an overview of Mowi’s salmon farming operations, the production cycle including the supply chain, #community benefit, and #career opportunities within salmon farming. 🌊 Patricia Ferguson MP, chair of the Scottish Affairs Committee said:  “During our visit we learned more about the challenges and opportunities for the sustainable growth of salmon farming.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g6shqTgx 

Part of their European tour, a group of international Erasmus Mundus Association MSc students visited the Scottish Association For Marine Science in #oban yesterday. 🎓 Our Technical & Standards Manager, Andrew Richardson along with James Sibley presented as guest scholars to the Master’s group, providing great insight to the students of #aquaculture in #scotland . 🐟

Our Wild Fisheries Fund supports many projects and trusts around #Scotland including the Ayrshire Rivers Trust who have been doing extensive work in improving the habitat along some of #Ayrshire’s rivers. 🌊 We caught up with Stuart Brabbs and Struan Candlish from the trust who showed us the work they’ve done at the Mauchline and Brockloch Burns. Their efforts have improved and preserved the stability and water quality of the rivers. By stopping erosion of riverbanks and building fencing around the rivers for protection, the rivers can support wild #salmon populations as well as other #wildlife.  🐟 Read more here:  https://lnkd.in/eBBMPqAb
