World class care for our community
About us
We provide health care services from Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and adult community healthcare services from Haslemere Hospital and Milford Hospital. Royal Surrey County Hospital provides emergency and general hospital services to a population of more than 330,000 across south west Surrey. It is also home to St Luke’s, our specialist tertiary Cancer Centre, which offers state of the art diagnostic and treatment services to a population of up to 2 million across Surrey, West Sussex, Hampshire and to patients from across the UK and abroad. Milford and Haslemere community hospitals provide health care services to adults across Guildford and Waverley. The Trust has recently been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for being caring, effective and safe, and ‘Outstanding’ for being responsive to people’s needs and for our maternity services. We employ over 4,000 members of staff making us one of Guildford’s largest employers. In addition, the hospital is supported by a thriving group of 500 volunteers all of whom provide valuable services on an independent, voluntary basis. We attract referrals from across the country for some specialties including urology and our Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (key-hole surgery) is one of only three such training units in the UK. Our patients also benefit from state of the art diagnostic equipment including two MRI scanners, four CT scanners, interventional radiology equipment and a gamma camera. We have one of the lowest mortality rates in the country. We see around 336,000 outpatients a year, 90,000 patients are admitted for treatment, around 74,000 patients attend our A&E department and we deliver around 3,000 babies.

“From a parent’s point of view, I am just lost for words. It was brilliant to have a warm meal and not to have to go down and spend money,” Ed Butler, a patient parent. We introduced an initiative recently that provides parents in our children’s ward with a hot breakfast, lunch and dinner so that they do not have to leave their child’s side. We’re happy to say that come Christmas day, parents will receive Christmas dinner. Parent Ed Butler, whose son Archie has spent over 500 days in hospital, called this a “watershed moment”. We are proud to share that our Parent Portal, a new digital resource created to support parents-to-be, has been shortlisted in the HSJ Partnership Awards in the Patient Engagement and Experience category. Co-produced by our Maternity team and the Maternity Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP), the Parent Portal provides parents with trusted information about pregnancy, birth, and the post-natal period. The portal, which can be translated into over 200 languages, has had great feedback and has been proven popular for pregnant mothers and those going through the post-natal period. Congratulations to our maternity teams! #RoyalSurrey #HSJAwards #NHS

Christmas cheer was in full swing as players from Woking Football Club visited our children’s ward to spread some festive joy! They brought plenty of gifts along with smiles and laughter as they spent time talking to children in the ward and posed for photographs. Club chaplain Ian Nicholson said: “It’s something that the fans and players really like to do – they want to give something back. We get a huge response.” Thank you to the Woking players! #RoyalSurrey #WokingFC #NHS #Christmas2024

We'd like to give a huge thank you to six-year-old Ryland, who donated Christmas gifts to our children’s ward after his mum was treated for cancer at our hospital 💙 Shannon Dickie, Ryland's mother, says she’s proud of her son for being so thoughtful. She said: “He said he would be sad if I was in hospital over Christmas so he wanted to give to children who might be going through chemotherapy or receiving treatment in hospital at this time of year.” Read more about Rylands donation: https://ow.ly/RCC750UsxHr #RoyalSurrey #Christmas #Donation

Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and Ashford and St Peter's NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce the appointment of Louise Stead as our Group Chief Executive Officer. This appointment follows a decision by the boards of each trust in October this year to establish a group model. The group will be a collaboration between the two existing trusts; each of which will remain separate organisations and maintain dedicated executive teams, boards and councils of governors. This decision is not a merger of the trusts. Please visit our website using the link below to read the full story: https://ow.ly/nLE950UrNm1

Introducing our Patient Choice Award (team) winners Clandon Ward 🌟 The person who nominated the ward credits them with providing the very best level of care for her father before passing away. They said: “The level of skill and compassion was unlike anything I had ever seen. “We really appreciated the kind and friendly welcome whenever we arrived. No matter how busy they were, nothing was too much trouble. I was frequently accompanied by my daughter who has learning disabilities and the kindness and compassion shown to her too, dealing with the death of her grandfather, was immense.” Well done Clandon Ward! #RoyalSurrey #StaffAwards #NHS

Congratulations to our two mortuary team members who have been recognised by Surrey Police for their exceptional forensic post-mortem work. Matthew Curran and Tammie Felton received a Specialist Crime Command Commendation at a recent awards ceremony. This recognises the diligent duo’s contribution to police investigations, assisting the force to achieve exceptional results. The report accompanying their award said: “Matthew and Tammie consistently go above and beyond in their daily roles to ensure that forensic post-mortems are carried out in a timely, professional and sensitive manner. Highly regarded by the Home Office forensic pathologists with whom they work, Matthew and Tammie are exceptionally accomplished in what is a very physically demanding role.” Read more: https://ow.ly/3prh50UqsmT #RoyalSurrey #NHS

“During my run, I thought of Sam and the precious moments I held him in my arms. I also thought of the lovely maternity nurses at Royal Surrey, who sat with us, trying to give some comfort,” – Sahand, Royal Surrey Charity fundraiser. Sahand took on the Beachy Head 10k challenge in memory of his son, Sam. He raised an amazing £1,400 for our Royal Surrey Charity’s Maternity Care Fund, which will be invested in our outstanding-rated maternity services. We’d like to thank Sam for his generous contribution 💜 Read more about Sahand’s story: https://ow.ly/mjYm50Upk1O #RoyalSurrey #Charity #NHS
