⚡ Capacity Market ⚡ This morning we've received confirmation that Root-Power have successfully prequalified 421MW of Battery Energy Storage projects for the upcoming T-4 Capacity Market Auction! Our Managing Director, Neil Brooks had this to say: "This is another critical milestone in delivering our vision for Root-Power, earlier this year we saw important changes to how Battery Energy Storage is considered by the Capacity Market and only a few days ago, the open letter published by NESO further emphasized the importance of projects which have obtained a Capacity Market Contract and how they will be considered in future connections reform. It is fantastic to see our plans aligning so closely with those of the industry bodies, thanks to our team for making this possible." If you want to read about the changes in how Battery Energy Storage is considered by the Capacity Market, our Head of Asset Management, Dan Moore, TMIET penned this article earlier in the year: https://lnkd.in/gaTid8Tj

⚡🔋 New Project Announcement ⚡🔋 We are pleased to announce that the planning permission for our Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Glasgow has been granted. This 50MW facility, with a storage capacity of 100MWh—sufficient to power 100,000 homes— will now move into the design and construction phase. Once operational this project, located near Ibrox in Glasgow City Center, will alleviate stress on the local grid during peak times, supporting Glasgow's growing energy needs and the Scottish Governments drive towards NetZero. Despite initial challenges in securing a suitable city-centre site and complex planning requirements, particularly given its proximity to Ibrox Stadium, we are on track to energise the facility by mid-2026. This milestone underscores our commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and contributing to the UK's net-zero goals. We look forward to delivering a project that will significantly enhance energy resilience and sustainability in the region. Our Managing Director, Neil Brooks, had the following to say: “Moving this project into the detailed engineering phase is a key milestone for our business, we look forward to working with our partners and stakeholders as our delivery team progresses the site through construction so that it can join our growing portfolio of operational battery energy storage sites across the UK.” For more information, please visit our project page - https://lnkd.in/eE6zzZgC

Our Managing Director, Neil Brooks, recently discussed the role of BESS in the UK's Energy Landscape moving forward after our sister business YLEM Energy, among a number of other businesses, received a Capacity Market Notice (CMN) from the National Energy System Operator (NESO) on 14 October. In the article, Neil emphasises the critical role of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for grid stability and emergency responses. He highlights BESS's ability to rapidly respond in crises, enhance grid resilience, and support black-start capabilities during blackouts. However, Neil Brooks calls for urgent reforms, noting that lengthy grid connection delays and unimplemented NESO strategies hinder BESS deployment. Streamlining these processes and integrating BESS more strategically could strengthen the UK's energy resilience and ensure future reliability. Read the full article below.
