Updates

  • Our annual Haulage Cost Movement report has been published.   The survey results show that costs are still pushing ahead of inflation and overall operating costs including fuel increased by 3.51%.  Our members painted a clear picture of the current challenges facing the industry. Respondents say that running costs are too high and 66% of hauliers are concerned about the state of the economy.   With further companies sliding into administration this year and with rising costs and much lower profits, businesses are now having to make savings wherever possible. • IMPORTANT UPDATE for hauliers moving goods to and from the island of Ireland. 👇 Last weekend, we worked with Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and Transport Scotland to secure a temporary relaxation of drivers’ hours for drivers of vehicles impacted by the Holyhead port closure which caused disruption at a number of ports across the country. This evening after further RHA conversations with DfT, they have confirmed that they'll be extending the current temporary relaxation for all drivers of vehicles affected by the closure of the Port of Anglesey and impacted by the adverse weather expected over the weekend. This extension will be to 23.59 on Monday 23 December.

  • The RHA has been notified of two updates to enforcement for hauliers using analogue or first generation smart tachographs. UK hauliers making international deliveries to the EU, including the Republic of Ireland and EU hauliers retrofitting vehicles with new tachographs for journeys between EU member states must familiarise themselves with these changes. https://lnkd.in/e9Np9bau #RHAInternational

  • We’re still seeking clarity from officials on key GB-NI trade issues and our members remain concerned about the impact and costs of increased administrative processes. More from our MD Richard James Smith 👇

    Managing Director at RHA

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has led engagement with Government and relevant stakeholders on the increased pressure that evolving requirements are placing on the GB-NI supply chain.   We’d like to thank HMRC for listening to our members in recent meetings regarding Groupage and the challenges they're facing moving goods GB to NI. However, to date the response from officials has fallen short of addressing their concerns in some instances.   We’re still seeking clarity from officials on key issues and there remains concern about the impact and associated costs of the increased administrative processes that businesses must go through to send goods. We also believe there is scope for a more simplified process.    Our members have raised these issues and have asked these questions on a number of occasions without answers or solutions being provided. We’re grateful for the engagement, but in order for this engagement to be meaningful, the many questions tabled need answers and clarity must be provided.    We’ll be raising the issues of concern again when we meet officials next month and we’ll continue to work with HMRC, the Cabinet Office, DEFRA, the NI Office and relevant stakeholders to address outstanding matters.   We're determined to find durable solutions which maintain and protect supply chains, streamline the processes and minimise the impact and cost on business and consumers.
