Automating legal documents so your lawyers can focus on what matters. Fast track your project with RLegal.

Enough is enough. There are some really shocking statistics that I'm only just learning about abuse. First Mel B bravely told her story in front of 600+ people at LegalGeek. Highlighting the shocking statistic that 1 in 4 women suffer domestic abuse. Then Hannah Strawbridge's post that almost a THIRD of female surgeons had been sexually assaulted by a colleague, and TWO THIRDS reported being sexually harassed. Surely not in the legal profession though, right? Wrong. Research by Culture Shift published in 2023 has shown that nearly 2 in 5 lawyers (38%) have experienced bullying, discrimination or harassment at work, with more people of colour and women experiencing these. The International Bar Association found in 2018 that one in three female respondents had been sexually harassed in a workplace context. Spend 5 minutes researching this and you will find countless other studies with similar statistics. What makes these reports particularly shocking, sad, and impactful for me was something Mel B said in her story. Work was a real escape for her, a safe space from the daily abuse. I think that's one reason Hannah's post really hit home for me. Are these actually safe spaces for women? The stats suggest not enough is being done to ensure they are. The reality is that over half of the human race may not feel safe: - at home - at work - on the streets. I feel helpless reading all of this, no doubt 1/1000 of the feeling for those impacted. honestly I'm not sure what to do, but I wanted to speak up at the very least. I've learnt a huge amount from Mel B's story and posts like Hannah's, they've had a significant impact on me, so my hope is that by - sharing these stories, - sharing our widespread condemnation of abuse and harassment, - sharing the perspectives of victims where possible, we can increase awareness and understanding and begin to make a difference and create the right culture of prevention and support p.s. please see the comments shortly for further information and links.

Critical success factors when pricing document automation on a fixed fee.... anyone who has worked on an hourly rate basis will know the challenges. Its very hard to predict exactly how long (hours and duration) a project will take, Even harder to price in a vacuum. So its not enough to price just on an estimate of time and effort. Understanding these three things: 1. Context 2. Value (a) the value you bring AND (b) the perceived value of the final product 3. Overall client budget for this and subsequent projects Lets look at each of these: 1. Understanding why the prospect has contacted you vs doing the project themselves - Is it a strategic imperative? Is there a tight deadline? Is the internal team overworked? etc. 2. (a) The value you bring. For me this includes: ✅ Focus - a dedicated resource with sole focus on delivering this one project (vs internal knowledge lawyers managing multiple priorities). ✅Speed - Focus but also 10 years of experience of accelerating document automation projects, and the ability to work flexibly. ✅Quality - attention to detail and applying best practices in document automation ✅Peace of mind - guaranteed delivery, options for payment on completion and success. (b) The perceived value of the final product ✅delivering a strategic or fixed fee client project ✅transforming delivery for clients ✅reducing turn-around times ✅80%+ time savings ✅reducing risk ✅consistency and quality of drafting ✅empowering junior fee earners 3. Overall client budgets This could be one of many projects for that client. Its an important consideration because: - you are creating a benchmark for future projects, - you want the scope to be clear and appropriate for the price, but... - I personally would rather the client receives more value than expected; and - sufficient budget remains for outsourcing future projects there could be a bigger opportunity, it could be the first of many projects You won't know unless you ask. What do you think are the key factors in fixed fee pricing? p.s. let me know if I've missed anything. Mahwash Ali, Scott Simmons I'd be interested to get your expert opinions on the above too. #RLegalEngineering #DocumentAutomation #FixedFees

🎓 I completed my NetDocuments sales certification yesterday! Here's a few pointers that stood out: ☁ Cloud First - This strategy must have taken guts to pursue when you consider that NetDocs is 25 years old and even now many larger firms insist on on-premise software installations. 👩👧👦 Automatic micro versioning (useful) 🤝 Collaboration and secure document sharing (increasingly vital) 📅 Customisable and dynamic metadata views (data underpins everything) And finally, the bit I'm really excited about getting into next - data tables, AI and #documentautomation (PatternBuilder & PatternBuilder Max) The course was well structured and informative. Thank you Mubashir Mian, AJ Bashorun (Junior B.) and the team. This is just the first step and I look forward to growing our partnership together. #DMS #DocumentManagement #LegalTech #RLegalEngineering
