President-elect Trump has suggested a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and while the focus of this is often on what that means for the vehicles made there, which are increasingly for the US, there are serious knock on effects for the supply chain which is being built there. Investment has flowed in to new facilities, particularly around the EV supply chain in major automotive cluster regions of the Border States, Bajio Region and Central Mexican Valley. American OEMs might have the chance to re-shore production to the US if tariff's demand it, but a whole host of businesses further upstream will lose their viability if this happens. The new highlights presentation from the Rho Motion EV Motors & Systems Quarterly Outlook is now available where we discuss this and more key topics. #Mexico #Trump #EVs #Tariffs

In Europe, black mass classification has been a key topic this year. In October 2024, the European Commission released a draft proposal for the European Waste Catalogue (EWC), introducing new classifications for waste batteries, slags, and intermediates including black mass. The updated EWC is likely to improve tracking of waste streams, while strict administrative requirements may discourage recyclers from exporting black mass outside Europe. However, its immediate impact on Europe’s black mass exports is expected to be limited, due to the need for further clarification on the black mass definition, insufficient refining capabilities in Europe and the EU waste shipments regulation allowing exports to OECD countries. This data is taken from our Q4 Battery Recycling Quarterly Outlook highlights presentation. ⚡ We often see the number of charge points installed used as the primary metric for charging infrastructure progress. While it is a great indicator in many cases, it doesn’t quite paint the full picture. 🔌 However, when you combine it with other factors, like the share of fast charging and population density, you can see some interesting trends emerge. Most countries follow this trend and display a trade-off between installing a high number of points at lower speeds and lower costs vs. opting for fewer, faster chargers. Neither approach is necessarily better than the other, it all depends on individual characteristics. Unless you’re China of course, in which your large fleet and low access to private charging means you need the best of both worlds. #EVCharging #RhoMotion

🚨 Milestone alert 🚨 Lithium ion battery demand has surpassed 1TWh for the first time! On the back of a record month for EV sales and strong BESS deployments in November, global lithium ion battery demand for the year has surpassed the 1TWh mark, a milestone narrowly missed in 2023. December is set to be another strong month, with record EV sales and EV deployments expected, pushing demand for the full year even further past 1TWh. EV demand continues to make up the majority of lithium ion battery demand, but worth noting the impressive growth of the BESS market in recent years has seen its market share double from 7% in 2020 to 15% in 2024! #battery #lithium #EV
