Flashback to 2012. As part of her role as Internal Communications Manager, Jenni Field sent a daily newsletter to every employee's inbox at 8am every morning. And people LOVED IT! The content? It was all based on what they had subscribed to on the intranet, and the format consisted of headline + photo + first few lines of a story + a link to click through. So simple, but it worked because it was relevant. Recipients said it was the best place to make sure they weren’t missing anything, especially after a holiday or time away. This was 12 years ago. Newsletters may have evolved over the years but simplicity still works best today, as it did back then. In fact, it's even more important now to 'cut through the noise' and make sure the content is focussed on the audience with hyper-personalisation, delivered in a way that recognises people's limited time to consume them. Email and newsletters are here to stay, so what will the most effective newsletters look like in 2025? - Shorter. It should be a 3 min read for the person receiving it. - Clearer. Using iconography or clear consistent sections so people can see at a glance what they need to know. - Connected. It needs to link to other channels that are accessible and the full stories. - Relevant. The content needs to be relevant for the person receiving it. This might mean creating more newsletters that are tailored, but technology allows for this now and it’s much easier to do. In short - when it comes to newsletters, less is definitely more.

As humans, we are resistant to change. Our brains are wired to seek comfort and familiarity. Change introduces uncertainty, which in turn can trigger feelings of fear, anxiety, and stress. So it's no wonder that many leaders lack confidence, conviction or clarity when communicating change in an organisation. In fact, it's an often-cited statistic that around 70% of change programmes fail. Despite this, bringing in communications professionals is regularly left until the last minute - which could be too little too late when it comes to change communication. Rushing change is never going to work, so early comms is vital for a successful change programme. Instead, leaders should take the time to do fundamental groundwork to really understand three key areas: people, relationships and alignment, and plan change comms using frameworks such as Think, Feel, Do. Check out last month's Leadership Fix for more insight and how leaders can use some of these frameworks to become better change communicators in 2025: https://lnkd.in/e64WN_zA

Are you a leader struggling in any of the following areas: 😊 Retention numbers? 💰 Profitability? 💡 Innovation? 🎯 Productivity? 💯 Employee engagement scores? If so, you're not alone. Many leaders - despite their best efforts - struggle with team performance and organisational health in general. The bigger issue, however, comes when the leader thinks they are doing everything right. But here's what we know, from years of research and working with hundreds of leaders, teams and organisations... If a leader wants to succeed, they have to look at their own behaviours, their own communication style and their own ability to build relationships with those they want to lead. This is where credibility is important. So, do you have what it takes to be a credible leader? Find out for free!
