Jonathan Buckley, Director at Radcliffes Environmental participated in a very interesting discussion and extensive Q&A at Geovation last week, so many thanks to the panel and Searchland for arranging the event! It was interesting to compare our own ongoing experience of working with clients and other consultants in navigating the challenges as projects involving Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) move through the planning system. It was particularly useful to understand the emerging costs for purchasing biodiversity units off-site; which trading platforms are currently under development; the importance of having the Biodiversity Gain Plan in place early and how DEFRA are monitoring the implementation of the BNG metric for continuous improvement. This October, the Radcliffes team are partaking in a steps challenge with a goal of collectively completing 5 Million Steps on behalf of Furnishing Futures! 👣   Together, our team are walking instead of taking those short tube or bus journeys to raise their step counts in support of an incredible charity dedicated to creating trauma informed healing homes for those escaping domestic abuse.   Furnishing Futures provides essential household items and furnishings to families placed in empty social housing after leaving abusive relationships. With less than 2% of social housing coming furnished, their mission is to create a comfortable and welcoming home for families experiencing furniture poverty.   By partnering with the construction and interiors industry and accepting donations of high-quality furniture from the public, Furnishing Futures repurposes items that might otherwise have gone to landfill. This approach not only fosters a circular economy, but also aims to make a significant social impact.   Their work helps individuals and families rebuild their lives, restoring dignity and hope during challenging times.   By participating in this challenge, we hope to shine a light on the mission of Furnishing Futures and the broader issue of domestic abuse during Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, encouraging conversations that lead to positive change. We are proud to share some photos from earlier this week where some of the Radcliffes team spent a day working with Furnishing Futures at their warehouse in East London. Furnishing Futures plays a crucial role in supporting individuals and families of domestic abuse as they transition to state-supplied homes, providing them with the essential furniture and items needed to create a safe & comfortable living space. Michael, Jane, Max & Giedre spent a fulfilling day assisting in reorganising the warehouse after their recent summer sale to raise funds for those in need, as well as lifting and shifting items that had been purchased in advance of shipping. It was a humbling experience to be able to contribute in a small way to such an impactful cause and witness first-hand the positive difference they make in the lives of so many. #FurnishingFutures #Volunteering #CommunitySupport #DomesticAbuseAwareness

Radcliffes are proud to support Furnishing Futures, a London based charity founded by Emily Wheeler that combines social work values with interior design skills to create fully furnished and healing homes for women and children coming from domestic abuse relationships. The women and children supported are often placed in empty social housing without furniture or are living with furniture poverty. Furnishing Futures helps by saving good quality furniture from landfill and works with the construction industry and tradespeople to design, refurbish and decorate families’ new homes. Often the products obtained are returns, seconds, ex-showroom, or other stock that could otherwise have ended up in landfill. By repurposing these high-quality items which may otherwise have been disposed of, Furnishing Futures look to create a powerful social impact while supporting a circular economy. We look to lend our support in a few ways; be that via donating high-quality furniture that would have otherwise been disposed of during building strip-outs on our projects, or actively volunteering with moves & organised events. Furnishing Futures always welcome hearing from potential supporters with high-quality furniture to donate and volunteers including tradespeople who can paint, decorate, and help with making these houses homes.
