This initiative is focused on bringing together the lift industry to support mental health within the industry. 2: The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity: This is the only charity which provides emotional, physical and financial well-being support to construction community workers and their families. As we countdown to the dawn of another year, we wanted to celebrate a few of our 2024 highlights. After months of hard work, our co-director Mike graduated with a distinction in his foundation engineering degree at the University of Nottingham. Founder and fellow co-director Phil not only marked nine years of launching our independent consultancy but, with such an impressive industry pedigree, he was asked to share his knowledge with fellow industry engineers, including CIBSE members and the engineers of tomorrow at Coventry University.  We also expanded our consultancy team by recruiting new lift engineers and our team attended seminars and symposiums across the UK, including at the London HQ of CIBSE and Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham. It’s certainly been a busy year for Pearson Consult. Next year is also set to be another exciting one, as we've got some fantastic projects in the pipeline, so keep watching this space! It’s nearly a wrap folks! That’s right tomorrow is our last day before we close our consultancy doors to spend some quality time with friends and family. It’s been an amazing year both personally and professionally for our directors Phil and Mike and they’d like to take this opportunity to say a personal thanks to everyone who has supported us throughout 2024. Phil, who sits at the helm of our independent engineering consultancy with son Mike, was thrilled to be invited back - for a third consecutive year - to Coventry University. We did promise..…so here it is….. In our last post we pledged to share with you a photograph of our co-director Mike Pearson graduating. So, just as we promised, here is Mike in his cap and gown, as well as standing alongside his proud father Phil Pearson, after receiving his foundation degree in lift engineering at the University of Northampton. Chartered engineer and Pearson Consult’s founder and co-director Phil said: “I’m very proud of what Mike has achieved all whilst doing his day job.” We would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to all those who’ve left messages of congratulations for Mike, who not only graduated last week, but did so with no less than a distinction! Comments include this from vertical transportation consultant Julia Munday, who said: “Well done Mike, I know from my own experience it isn't easy juggling work and family commitments with studying but getting a distinction is superb.” Despite boasting over half a century of experience under their collective professional belts and being field leaders, this latest achievement shows how our directors continue to strive for further professional development and to further improve on their already impressive engineering prowess. Today we are very excited to be able to reveal an amazing achievement for one of our dynamic directors...... A thrilled Mike Pearson, who is a proud company director alongside his father, Phil Pearson, has been awarded a prestigious qualification. We hope that you will join the whole Pearson Consult team in saying a “huge congratulations” to Mike who is over the moon to have been awarded …… his foundation degree in lift engineering! And that’s not all. He's graduating in cap and gown today, and he is doing so with a distinction! Father Phil, a chartered engineer and company founder, said: “I’m so proud of Mike. He’s worked incredibly hard to study for his degree while working at the same time. So, to achieve a distinction is not only testament to his knowledge and dedication to engineering excellence, but is another feather in his cap and Pearson Consult’s too. Amazing - well done Mike.” Mike’s degree saw him complete projects entitled “installation of new lifts in existing lift shafts” and “Critique of the process of conversion of existing lift into a firefighter lift” as well as no less than 7 Lift and Escalator Industry Association LEIA modules and a module in engineering mathematics. Mike said: “While I found the course challenging, it was extremely interesting and educational! I’m over the moon to be awarded my foundation degree and to achieve a distinction is the icing on the cake.” This latest achievement continues to demonstrate, despite boasting more than half a century of experience under their collective professional belts and being leaders in their field, that our directors don’t rest on their laurels but continue to strive for further, continued professional development. Our founder Phil Pearson will be heading to the capital in a few days’ time for an event that’s an annual highlight in his field. Would you like to know what that is? Happy Halloween! Did you know that there’s a spooky superstition about lifts and elevators on All Hallows Eve? Some believe that if you happen to be inside a lift at midnight, then strange things might happen! These include that the doors might open to a floor that doesn’t exist, or you could even catch a glimpse of a ghostly figure in the reflection!!
