After an incredible four months interning with Overcome as a mental health coach, I’m filled with gratitude and admiration as I wrap up my work with them.
Following an immersive four-week training in coaching techniques such as CBT, CBT-I MI, and ACT, I had the incredible opportunity to apply these tools with clients. Each coaching session was a chance to tailor evidence-based strategies to individual needs, empowering clients to navigate their challenges with greater confidence and resilience. Seeing clients make meaningful progress was so rewarding and reinforced my passion for supporting mental well-being. I also had the opportunity to help set up a research pilot study focused on improving the retention of online clients giving me valuable experience in combining research with practical application in the digital mental health space.
Reflecting on my four months as a mental health coach, I’m amazed at how much I’ve grown. A standout moment was helping a client have a breakthrough around living in alignment with their values and prioritising self-care as the key to wellbeing. While the responsibility of supporting others' mental health was daunting at first, the positive feedback and the growth I’ve seen in myself—both as a coach and leader—has built my confidence and excitement for the future.
I’m incredibly grateful to John Salter, Angel Au, Kishah Kibui, Helen Hayward, and Chimango Chirwa for their invaluable and unwavering guidance throughout this journey. A huge shout-out to Cohort 13 as well, whose support, laughter, and advice made every day memorable. Witnessing everyone’s dedication to making mental health resources accessible and impactful has been inspiring and energising.
As I move forward now, I’m excited to continue building on these experiences and contributing to mental health in impactful ways!
