Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to spend a week gaining hands-on experience in the Clinical Negligence Department at Oakwood Solicitors Ltd. During my time there, I was involved in various stages of case preparation, allowing me to apply and expand upon the skills I developed during my undergraduate degree. My first task was to organize a client’s medical files by document type and chronological order, ensuring clarity and efficiency in their review. Following this, I conducted risk assessments, critically evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of claims—a process that called on the analytical skills I honed during my studies. In addition to these tasks, I drafted letters of first notification, instructions to experts, and expert nominations. Each of these required precision, attention to detail, and a client-focused approach to meet the specific demands of each claim. Working alongside the talented team in the Clinical Negligence Department and receiving their feedback not only enhanced my technical skills but also reaffirmed my passion for pursuing a career in law. This experience provided valuable insight into the complexities of clinical negligence cases and solidified my passion for a career in the legal realm. A special thank you to Abbie Keech, Carol Cook, Jade Glover, Alice Webb, and the entire Clinical Negligence Department for their warmth, guidance, and support. I truly enjoyed my time at Oakwood Solicitors and am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn from such an inspiring team!
