Updates

  • Today we published January prices for vehicles on the Motability Scheme. The Scheme continues to offer good value, and is, on average, 45% more affordable than alternative options, despite rising UK motoring costs.     These rising costs affect what we can offer to our customers. We work with car manufacturers and our partners to provide good value to our customers now, while focusing on ensuring the long term sustainability of the Scheme.     We’re committed to continuing to connect our customers to work, healthcare, education, and independence.    Discover how we’re working to keep the Scheme accessible and affordable for our customers: https://lnkd.in/gMkM3DDZ

  • Spreading Christmas Cheer in Bristol 🎄 This Christmas day, we were proud to host a free festive lunch at our Bristol office as part of Marmalade Trust’s 2024 Christmas Cheer campaign, supporting 42 local guests who might have otherwise spent Christmas alone. Our incredible team of 21 employees and some of their families volunteered their time to make this event special—serving meals and distributing hampers to spread joy and connection during the holiday season. Mark Brown, our Head of Impact and Sustainability, said: “This event is an example of who we are and what we do at Motability Operations. We believe in making a positive impact on people and the communities we operate in. By partnering with Marmalade Trust, we are bringing to life the principles of our business and making a difference to people’s lives.” This initiative is just one way we’re committed to creating positive social outcomes. From the accessible allotment in Bristol where employees grow and donate produce that has fed over 300 people this past year to new partnerships like this one, we’re proud to make a real difference where it matters most.

  • “Without my Motability Scheme car, my life would be completely different... it’s something I’ll never take for granted.” We know the biggest impact the Motability Scheme has is on its customers. Customers tell us the Scheme is life changing, and helps them access work and education, as well as participate. As the UK transitions to electric vehicles (EVs), we remain committed to keeping our customers mobile. We're working to address the barriers they face, such as inaccessible and expensive public charging or a lack of suitable makes and models. Hear from Motability Scheme Ambassador and Paralympian Laurie Williams as she shares her experience with the Scheme and her thoughts on switching to electric.⚡

  • Over the last few weeks, we’ve been holding our end-of-year employee roadshows across our offices! Twice a year, we bring our people together for our employee roadshows—a fantastic opportunity to stay connected, informed, and engaged. Andrew Miller, Damian Oton, James Douglas and Karen King provided updates on our business performance and strategic progress. This ensures everyone understands where we’re at as a business and how we’re working together to deliver for our customers. The roadshows are also a great chance to ask questions, share ideas, and hear from teams across the organisation, fostering collaboration and transparency. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to these insightful sessions.

  • This week, Simon Minty visited our Edinburgh office to host the third instalment of our Access All Areas series, ‘Being Me’. Featuring engaging talks from Robyn Love, Paralympian and Motability Scheme Ambassador, and Daisy Ross (She/Her), Team Coach and PRIDE Network Lead. They shared how their disabilities have shaped who they are, while also exploring the challenges of visible vs invisible disabilities and what inclusion truly means. A big thank you to Simon, Robyn, Daisy, and everyone who joined us for this memorable conversation! #ShareYourStory #AccessAllAreas #DisabilityInclusion

  • The high cost of public charging continues to present a significant barrier to widespread electric vehicle (EV) adoption for disabled drivers. We estimate over half of Motability Scheme customers won't have home charging access, forcing them to rely on public networks – where prices can be 10 times higher than charging at home. New research from Motability Scheme partner, the RAC, underscores the urgency of this situation. It reveals that while off-peak home charging can cost as little as 7p per kWh, some public rapid chargers are hitting drivers with an eye-watering 80p. This inequity poses a considerable challenge to the accessibility of EVs for a considerable portion of the population. We’re committed to making the switch to electric inclusive and accessible for all, but we can't do it alone. We need industry-wide action to address this charging inequality. Lowering public charging costs are crucial to ensuring an equitable transition for everyone.

Andrew Miller, CEO: "Affordability and accessibility of public charging is crucial if the transition to electric vehicles is to be successful"

60% of disabled people view entrepreneurship positively but more than a third find it inaccessible. This represents a vast pool of untapped talent. This week I witnessed a powerful step towards changing that reality. I had the privilege of speaking at the inaugural Creo Showcase, an event designed to empower disabled and neurodiverse founders. I also heard pitches from the first Creo cohort who have truly brilliant products and services which, with investment, could change and improve lives.   At Motability Operations, we see the power of inclusion every day and from our 4 million interactions with our customers every year, we know the problems they face, day in, day out. The persistence and resilience that people with disabilities need to face these problems complements the skills of an entrepreneur. Creo, our partnership with Founders Forum Group and Tech Nation, is designed to address barriers to opportunity and harness the talent of disabled people, connecting disabled and neurodiverse founders with the resources, mentorship, and networks they need to thrive.    Carolyn Dawson Chantelle Young Alex Mahon   https://lnkd.in/e8dE3Vqp

  • Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities! At Motability Operations, we’re proud to support this important day which highlights the rights, achievements, and contributions of disabled people across the globe. To celebrate and as part of PurpleSpace’s Positively Purple campaign, our Bristol and Edinburgh offices were lit up to demonstrate our commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible society. At our London office, purple stones were handed out to employees, representing the diversity and uniqueness of everyone. We’re also focused on fostering an inclusive workplace where disabled colleagues feel supported and valued. This includes initiatives like our enABLE Employee Network, which ensures employees with disabilities have a voice, and our ongoing commitment to accessible office spaces, including quiet workstations and wellbeing rooms. We’re continually improving with policies like our workplace adjustment process and a new health and wellbeing strategy to better support our teams. Through initiatives like our #ShareYourStory campaign, we’re celebrating the unique experiences of disabled people while continuing to deliver the Motability Scheme to over 800,000 disabled people across the UK. #InternationalDayofPersonswithDisabilities #DisabilityInclusion #ShareYourStory #InclusionMatters
