Making architecture is an adventure better done in company.

About us

Morris + Company was established in 2018 and is the evolution of Duggan Morris Architects. The same creative spirit, developed over 12 years as Duggan Morris, is the foundation of the evolved practice; however, its reassembly as Morris + Company has brought a broader field of vision and more collegiate way of working. Our diverse team of 50 design and architecture professionals reflects its collaborative, international ethos. Our work demonstrates a strong portfolio of completed projects across workplace, housing, education and public buildings, delivering award-winning projects. The practice’s methodology is inquisitive and explorative, providing new perspectives on a brief allowing us to deliver landmark schemes with unique mixed uses, from the award-winning R7 office and commercial building in London’s Kings Cross development to the new Energy Hub, part of the Elephant Park regeneration project in London, combining a power plant serving more than 3,000 homes, a community space and a nursery. We have recently established our new office in Copenhagen, Denmark. Set up as a test-bed for a more deeply collaborative approach, it aims to explore new design territory through working with other practices through innovative projects and competitions For more information please visit: www.morrisand.company

  • A stand out project for our team and the client, practices, consultants, and constructors we collaborated with for over ten years in its making.

Brickmas Countdown Finale! 🎄Norton Folgate We know we've mentioned this Supreme winner recently but it's a real architectural renovation masterpiece and we want to conclude our Brickmas countdown with a bang! The sheer complexity of bringing multiple agencies together to give life to disused buildings is a feat of creativity and a woven tapestry of construction expertise. We're talking building materials, colour palettes and a good eye for transforming buildings into havens that sympathetically sit within an existing bustling area of life. It's safe to say these builds weren't copying trends. Winning both Urban Regeneration and the prestigious Supreme award, the Brick Award judges commented: "This excellent mixed-use scheme is a unique blend of old and new, creating highly sustainable, innovative spaces in a historic environment in the heart of the city." LOSING INSTAGRAM Earlier this year, on a typical sunny morning in July, the Morris+Company (@moco_arch) Instagram account was hacked. At the time of this event, the account had a following of over 82,000, within the top ten most followed architecture accounts in the UK. We have never had a social media account manger or hired a content creator; qualities unique within an increasingly ubiquitous sea of click-bait and AI generated content. Instead, the feed was a deeply reflective and authentic hand-curated feed led by practice founder Joe Morris. It represented a force of optimism; an authentic flow of our processes and production; a window into the life of the studio. Our process driven work is the output and endeavour of many hands and minds, resulting in an expansive collection of ideas manifest across a wide range of media for every project. We catalogue these processes meticulously and continuously, placing the upmost importance on capturing the adventure of architecture and its journey; from the seed of an idea and the genius loci of place; to conceptual forays of early ideas and strategic development; to material innovation and physical making in our workshop; to project representation and explorative illustration; to procurement and the construction process; and on to completion and occupation. The net result is an extraordinarily diverse, rich and extensive portfolio of designed and built work spanning more than two decades. And the Instagram account was a lens upon this spectrum of craft and experimentation. It is ‘just’ Instagram we hear you say…but it was also an extraordinary record of a body of work, a journey of discovery, a chronological adventure of the studio. Its loss feels akin to having your diary stolen, or your box of favourite photographs taken from under the bed. And whilst the raw data and content remains on our system, it is in the unique format of Instagram that it was brought to life, and that act of compiling the content into posts of rich imagery and complimentary narratives cannot easily be recreated. Its loss has highlighted the potent value of posting considered and authentic content. A value to our studio and those who follow. We have therefore refocused our energy on a new feed (@morrisand.company - link below) which aims to recapture some of the original feed - looking both backward and forward. And in the world beyond Instagram we are looking to return to the value of being in person, exploring our twenty year archive of work, and giving proper credence to what we have done through a new exhibition programme and publications which will be hosted at our studio, and to the public in the coming year. Call to action…follow our feed through this link : https://lnkd.in/dPZHMhMN

📚 This time last year, we funded valuable research from Morris+Company that outlines guidance to improve spatial and design standards for emergency accommodation for families with children. The absence of spatial and environmental standards definitively impacts the mental and physical health, as well as the educational and economic prospects of children and families in emergency accommodation. 📈 As the number of children living in temporary accommodation rises by 15% - an increase of 22,000 compared to last year - there are now 159,380 children in such circumstances. Addressing the disparities in quality and design will help ensure safe environments for these families. This report equips councils and housing providers with the guidance needed to create better living conditions for families in need. For more insights on the guidance provided in the report, please follow the link below. The research from Morris+Company was also produced in collaboration with Common Projects and The Magpie Project. https://lnkd.in/d44iGqBM

We’re delighted to share that Morris+Company’s CEO and Head of Architecture, Joe Morris, will be speaking at the SHARE Serbia 2024 International Architecture Forum, 26th November, in Belgrade! Joe’s talk, “Urban Continuity: Crafting a Modern Legacy at 15 Norton Folgate, London,” delves into the rich story of this transformative project—a celebration of historical and sensitive reuse. 15 Norton Folgate embodies the philosophy of building with thought, weaving new life into a historic fabric. By balancing heritage conservation with innovative design, this project illustrates how architecture can respectfully adapt and reimagine spaces for contemporary use, creating places that honour the past while meeting the needs of the present. This conversation resonates deeply with @Morris+Company’s vision and values that architecture should be a dialogue between people, place and planet. If you’re attending the conference, we’d love to hear your thoughts—drop us a message or come say hello after the talk! We would be pleased to connect, exchange ideas, and continue shaping places that inspire and endure.   #MorrisandCompany #ShareSerbia #Architecture #15NortonFolgate #UrbanContinuity #ArchitecturalLegacy #Retrofit #AdaptiveReuse

Clay/Culture/Carbon: Our new initiative at Morris+Company embodies our commitment to #socialvalue and #environmentalchange. Rooted in the theme of #CLAY, this programme explores the multifaceted nature of sustainability—both social and environmental—through hands-on collaborations with local Hackney schools and EH Smith and Greengage. Our aim is to deepen our understanding of how sustainability shapes the built environment and extends beyond carbon impacts, engaging the next generation through creative, educational experiences. With plans to grow over the coming years, this programme is a new avenue for inspiring and involving young people in the potential of sustainable design in the built environment. First Workshop: We recently hosted our inaugural workshop with nine enthusiastic sixth form students at The City Academy, Hackney. The session focused on clay’s role in construction, inviting students to experiment with this versatile natural material. Through interactive learning and collaborative creation, students gained practical insights into sustainability, discovering how clay can contribute to their future. Their energy and engagement were inspiring, underscoring the impact of “learning through the craft of making.” What’s Next? Our next session will welcome students to our Mare Street studio to create a series of unique tiles exploring themes of biodiversity and culture in construction. Early next year, students will participate in a physical exhibition to showcase their work, hosted at our Morris+Company studio. Stay tuned as we continue to explore the powerful intersection of art, culture, and sustainability. #MorrisandCompany #EHSmith #Greengage #ClayCultureCarbon #Sustainability #SocialValue #Hackney #EnvironmentalChange #Education #Outreach

  • WOODWARD ROAD | Be First | Dagenham Site progress for our Woodward Road scheme in Dagenham for Be First delivering 56 affordable homes across a range of one-to-three storey mews houses, and three-to-four storey apartment blocks. These new homes form a balanced and mixed community linked by a family mews street with a new playground, and a refurbished and an extended 650sqm community centre built within an old library building. The design, scale, and form of this new development has been carefully considered to respect and enhance the appearance of the neighbouring community. Brick has been used throughout in the construction of the buildings but also across the street as a continuous layer. Gables, pitched roofs, dormers, mansards, projecting canopies and cobbled garden walls reference the surrounding Beacontree Estate : built in the 1930’s it was Europe’s largest, it provided 27,136 homes for East End families displaced by slum clearance, and was built on the founding belief that all people deserved to be decently housed and feel proud of their home. This masonry grain is accentuated with complimentary red flashing, coping, brise soleil, downpipes, gates, grilles and front doors ensuring the street reads as a place, therefore providing a balance between generous, homes and a connected, supportive local community. Be First is an inspiring client, and their public consultation process was open, engaged and extensive providing the conditions for dialogue and conversation with local and adjacent residents that helped shape the design and make sure our proposal would be a sympathetic neighbour. The team at Morris+Company is incredibly proud that we have been able to meet the needs of local residents and to make housing that is resilient in and out of times of crisis.
