  • We're delighted that we have started our journey with HealthPathways. It will provide us with a new methodology for use across our healthcare system to help ensure our patients are placed on the right, locally relevant, pathway for their condition. We've done our training and are now developing our pathways, and can't wait to see it up and running in the spring.

  • A new service is supporting vulnerable young people at risk of violence who attend the Emergency Department at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. Funded by the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) CHAT is an early intervention for young people who come to hospital with injuries suspected to be linked to violence, exploitation or mental health issues. Staffed by youth workers and run independently of the Trust, the CHAT team works with the young person to understand the underlying issues behind their admission to hospital and provide non-judgemental help and support. Once discharged, the team help ensure their continued safety by connecting them with services in the community to support with health, education, employment and housing. Ruth Foley, lead for Trauma Informed Care in the Trust’s Safeguarding Team, said: “The main aim of CHAT is to keep vulnerable young people safe from violence. We can offer a listening ear while they are in the Emergency Department and support them through any assessments and procedures they may need. “We can also signpost them to other help and services once they are discharged, with the ultimate aim of reducing the likelihood of them returning to the ED again in the future.” Read the full story here: https://buff.ly/4gpqRjW

Patient Lisa Stubbs, 45, from Newton Hill in Wakefield, is full of praise for everyone who cared for her at Dewsbury and District Hospital and says her surgery has given her hope for the future and the chance at a new life. So much so that Lisa, who is five feet, five inches tall, and was 19 stone pre surgery, has set a date to get married to her partner of 11 years on 4 October! 🎉 👰 🤵 💍 Lisa said: “This surgery was a life saver for me, I am now hopeful for the future, and it will massively improve my quality of life."
