About us
The Meetings Industry Association (mia) is the body for setting and accrediting standards in the meetings industry, they are the owners and keepers of ‘AIM’ an industry wide recognised accreditation scheme which was developed on their behalf and in cooperation with The Best Practice Forum. The specific objectives of the Association in developing an accreditation scheme was to: - improve the quality of the meetings industry throughout the UK. - create a scheme which is totally inclusive of all venues types. - give meetings organisers confidence when selecting their venues. Tourist Boards, Regional Development Agencies, VisitBritain and others are seeking to use AIM accreditation as a means of improving the quality of meeting and conference facilities; raising standards, and growing the size of the business tourism market.

Our recent MIA Insights quarterly benchmarking report for the business meetings and events industry revealed that almost three quarters (74%) are confident in the future growth and sustainability of the sector – a slight increase on sentiment reported in June. This is supported by a decrease in typical event lead times, now standing at 11 weeks, a reduction of five on the last report, while the average event budget has risen by nearly £7,000 to a reported £34,534 per event. Respondents are also witnessing an increase in enquiries from outside of the region in which they operate, including a rise in overseas enquiries. This suggests a greater appetite for business meetings and events travel – a positive outlook considering international delegates spend more, stay longer, and support the UK economy.
