With our workload continuing to grow, and the scaffolding workforce nationally growing smaller and older, ISL have taken steps to expand with an intake of 20 Scaffolding Apprentices. The majority of them are 16 year old school leavers, with others looking to build a career path in the scaffolding industry. In conjunction with W@H Safety Solutions, they have completed a week long induction course including CISRS COTS, CCNSG Safety Passport and emergency first aid, and will shortly commence courses on the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) apprentice scaffolder scheme. These Apprentices add to 9 operatives following our in-house training scheme, that have either completed their CISRS Part 1 course, or are due to attend it shortly. Our recent work at Durham University’s Palace Green Library involved designing two temporary roofs and access scaffolds to support the preservation of this historic building. The project features a 30m fixed-span, pre-cambered mono-pitched roof with the rear edge suspended from the building walls and a fully suspended 14m mobile duo-pitched roof. #DurhamUniversity #Engineering #HistoricPreservation #StructuralDesign #ScaffoldDesign #TemporaryWorksDesign

Following on from similar works to the adjacent Bishop Cosin’s Library in 2020, ISL have recently completed two temporary roof and access scaffolds for VEST Construction (LIVECO Ltd) on Durham University’s Palace Green Library buildings. The design was coordinated with RDG Engineering, with a fixed 30m span mono pitch roof, with sheeting terminated mid span, and a mobile 14m span duo pitch roof.

Progress update on Cricketers Hill 🎥🧱 Working in partnership with RE:GEN Group, 115 homes including two, three and four bedroom houses, two bedroom bungalows and two bedroom apartments are currently under construction at our development in Carley Hill. 🏠 The first phase of roof works is nearing completion, internal works are progressing well with all teams on site and we’re on track to have 30 homes completed by the end of the year. Fantastic progress made on today's site visit to Ochre Yards! Despite a tough winter and numerous hurdles, we're thrilled to announce that we're finally ready to put a roof on the first block. A huge shoutout to TA Joinery, ISL Scaffolding, and S&B Brickwork for their fantastic effort in getting this complex roof structure to this stage in just 2 weeks! Our scaffold at Heaton Park Court in Newcastle is now ready for full hand over to RE:GEN Group following completion of the flame retardant netting. The scaffold has a base of nearly 100m and has been erected using Layher Ltd (UK) Allround system scaffold for brace free access on all lifts, whilst special ‘aircraft’ standards allow for floor level lifts. With the scaffold being nearly 35m high, the design team had to liaise with Network Rail for approval due to the close proximity of the East Coast Main Line. Ground conditions necessitated the use of hardwood timber sleepers to spread the leg loads. Large recesses on two elevations are infilled with a birdcage scaffold, with cantilever scaffolds into smaller recesses on the other elevations. A twin inside deck arrangement will minimise the adaptations necessary for the insulation and rendering works, whilst gap decks between the inside standards provide a flush deck surface. A small bridge on the South elevation is formed using pull back braces, whilst a larger bridge on the opposite elevation is supported by Layher HD beams. An unusual staircase layout was required due to the Clients requirements, and is formed using 1m and 1.5m high stair flights in a double bay arrangement. Finally, two Geda hoists allow raising of new materials, and disposal of waste, for the refurbishment works.
